- jackalsclaw, on 11/22/2008, -0/+3Why is your beer gooey! There is a difference between a thick liquid and something gooey; beer should never be chewed!
- cjei21, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1Hmm... Seems like he/she just mixed up beer with something else, if you know what I mean.
- linagee, on 11/22/2008, -2/+3100,000 pounds (around $150k) for "medical superglue"?
- GawtMilk, on 11/22/2008, -0/+4They didn't just buy the superglue and call it a day.
"...which causes tiny holes in the brain's main blood vessels and affects just a few hundred people worldwide."
"A team of surgeons inserted a hollow remote-controlled tube containing super-strength organic superglue in through her groin, passed her stomach and heart, and finally into the base of her brain."
Sounds like the kind of thing you wouldn't want to ***** up...

What an irony!- MickJT, on 11/22/2008, -1/+2That's just a coincidence.
- sdellboy, on 11/22/2008, -3/+2The doctors were initially contemplating gaffer tape with the knowledge of the amateur handyman that 'if it can't be fixed with gaffer tape, it can't be fixed at all.'
- Trigononamous, on 11/22/2008, -1/+21Duct Tape would have done just as well.
- moletimer, on 11/22/2008, -9/+1If I see any more Daily Mail articles on the front page, I'm leaving digg. I'm sorry, but I am. *Wipes tears*
- jackalsclaw, on 11/22/2008, -0/+9Someone needs to invent a surgical duct tape.
- lion1750, on 11/22/2008, -0/+5I think duct tape is already good enough for surgical use.

- LenBaird, on 11/22/2008, -1/+4Someone told me that superglue was originally invented for medical uses such as this. The guy who told me this is a guitar repairman, and he says it works great for gluing oily wood such as rosewood, because it was designed to glue bone, which is oily and woody also.
- merrickx, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2Well, superglue was made to do stuff like this. It became especially popular in Vietnam.
My friend Brian got into a slight 'physical altercation' once and had one of his plugs ripped out of his ear. He used superglue to mend his dangling lobe back to the side of his head. Good shlit. - chaos7, on 11/22/2008, -0/+4FTA:

- tensheapz, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1I also found it strange they started at her groin initially.
I presume they travelled through the blood circulatory system, and the best place to make entry would be in the groin where there are large veins and arteries, and yet a reasonably safe area to do so. Consider the alternative of entering through the jugular or other veins in the neck/chest area.
Possibly also they wanted to avoid any external scarring for where they had to make an incision.

My uncle performs eye surgery using store bought super glue. It's sterile. "Medical superglue" is either regular superglue used by a physician or regular superglue sold by a medical supply company to stupid doctors for 20 times its normal cost.
My friend is an open heart surgery nurse and she says they use Craftsman power tools wrapped in plastic.- suspect23, on 11/22/2008, -0/+6Actually the more expensive medical grade glue is usually 2-octyl cyanoacrylate(Dermabond) or n-butyl-cyanoacrylate(Vetbond) and the industrial superglue is usually ethyl-2-cyanoacrylate(krazy glue) or methyl-2-cyanoacrylate. The latter group degrades more quickly than the former releasing small amounts of formaldehyde, which is why you pay a premium for the medical grade stuff. The medical grade superglue still degrades into formaldehyde but at a much slower rate -- slow enough to allow the surrounding tissue time to remove the formaldehyde before it reaches the toxicity threshold.
The toxicity level may not be significant, and most likely won't cause any issues with small amounts of glue; however I'd rather be glued with 3m Dermabond than 'Kwik Fixx'- DirtyBinLV, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2Yes, sir, know your CA glue.
