(wait, ***** - didn't mean that pun) - caracter2, on 11/20/2008, -18/+7Old. You should Digg the fact that both DJ AM and Travis are all better now and the events have brought all the blink 182 members back to talking terms and maybe... who knows.
http://www.pickrset.com/markhoppus/?p=306- tkoziar, on 11/20/2008, -0/+10It's 2008 dude, move on already.
- xsecretfiles, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1blink who?
- turpenine, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5blink 182 breaking up was some of the best news ever when it happened. Don't ***** with my good news.
- unreg, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1I'm all about not really giving a flying rat *****.
- kjcdude, on 11/20/2008, -4/+16Like most plane crashes, it looks like a pilot error.
- blacktriangle, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Not quite. That's a hard decision to make; take-off or abort take-off. At that speed, you can easily lose directional control when a blowout occurs. The pilots were probably following the correct protocol when they made the decision to abort.
- ayeroxor, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2If the pilot is as stupid as the pictured individual looks, I'm not surprised.
- mrmopwater, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1uh, no. that's travis barker. a drummer, not a pilot.
- pires64, on 11/20/2008, -3/+0yeah stupid individual considered one of the best in his craft and who makes millions
fail. - ayeroxor, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1he could be einstein, but he still looks like a complete poser tool douche.
- 172pilot, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Agreed.. As a pilot myself, I would say that the planes, even when they malfunction, are very safe, if the pilots are familiar with, and follow emergency procedures. What happens is that in the heat of the moment, the pilots dont realize how dire the situation is until it's too late, and/or they dont think the standard emergency procedures are proper for their specific emergency, and they improvise. Improvisation in these cases usually causes fatal crashes, while the emergency procedures are created to save the people, at the expense of the airframe.
- AUAviator, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2There really aren't any "standard emergency procedures" in the sense that running a checklist will always work like magic, if there is even a checklist for your problem. Procedures are only a known starting point for handling any given situation. Every situation, especially an emergency, is different. One personal example: Student is in slow flight dirty at a somewhat high altitude. Engine loses power and is restarting and failing intermittently. The engine failure in flight procedure gets no restart. After cleaning it up and setting for a glide, the engine sound while it briefly coughs to life and fails again just "feels" like mixture. No emergency procedure says pull the mixture back for a restart, but it just felt too rich. Voila restart and back to the airport no prob.
Part of being a good pilot isn't just training procedures but also training for a good decision making process so that when we inevitably do have to improvise we make the correct decision. Never let procedures stand in the way of good flying.

- Barackalypse, on 11/20/2008, -1/+9He's part of the FAA's urban outreach program to try and get disadvantaged youth interested in exciting careers as air traffic controllers. MC Midair Collision delivers the heavy hitting vocals.
- ViSioN, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Dugg for MC Midair Collision... I'm still laughing.

- Coreal07, on 11/20/2008, -2/+6All that matters is that Travis Barker will hopefully drum again... As much as he is hyped up, he is an amazing drummer.
On a side note... What do third degree burns do to tattoos??- RealmDown, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2His drumming will continue, hopefully inspired to new heights.
- everlast88, on 11/20/2008, -0/+12it burns them straight off, a lot of ex gang members will simply use a hot coat hanger to remove their gang tattoos
- sinoth, on 11/20/2008, -0/+15That is the most gangsta' comment I'll read today.
- cgruber, on 11/20/2008, -2/+1I used the tears collected from infant gypsies to remove mine.
- RealmDown, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2His drumming will continue, hopefully inspired to new heights.
- GeorgeStone2, on 11/20/2008, -3/+5Does anyone know how badly burned Travis was? Would be a real shame if it put an end to his drumming. Or just ruined his cool tattoos.
- ayeroxor, on 11/20/2008, -2/+2Oh yeah. Real ***** shame about his "cool tattoos".
/kids. lol. - GeorgeStone2, on 11/20/2008, -1/+3His tattoos are cool.. You ever actually seen him drum? Didn't think so.
Fits his image so well.
/Patronising bastard.- Briandt75, on 11/20/2008, -2/+2Hey George, have you ever seen a real drummer drum... It's kind of amazing. Barker should probably watch one sometime too.
- ayeroxor, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Still lol'ing at the kids. Let me know when you've seen a real drummer like Bill Bruford, not some kid plonking on toys.
- ayeroxor, on 11/20/2008, -2/+2Oh yeah. Real ***** shame about his "cool tattoos".
- FastZ, on 11/20/2008, -3/+12Meh
- winterface, on 11/20/2008, -1/+5I think burns really distort tattoos. If the burns are bad enough for skin grafts then say goodbye to the tats
- ph0replay, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2More like say goodbye to the skin graphs if you have tattoos.
As cool as they make look, they destroy the possibilities of using skin for skin graphs.
Im not sure where they would of grabbed skin off Travis Barker...he seems covered.- slapded, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1burned jet fuel is way cooler than a tat

- winterface, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1Looks like is back up . Horray.
- daivos, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1I hate when that happens.
- mamboboy, on 11/20/2008, -3/+1"On newley released cockpit recordings, the pilot reported the plane .going off the end. of the runway."
The grammar Nazi's will be in a blind fury about use of the grammar & punctuation. Kinda makes it more dramatic, though! - vagrantwade, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Ran out of runway? That is how we spin "pilot ***** up badly".
- blacktriangle, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1No. I'll bet that they were following the correct protocol when they made the decision to abort takeoff.
- misskitcat, on 11/20/2008, -2/+1Anybody click on the radio stations on this site? Their not too bad.
- SasquatchBill, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Ugh. Seriously? I still have to do this?
"They're".
- SasquatchBill, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Ugh. Seriously? I still have to do this?
- vagrantwade, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Just for reference, DJ AM is the one who was engaged to Nicole Richie.
- Barackalypse, on 11/20/2008, -3/+1Would probably have been better for him and the rest of humanity had the plane skidded into a fuel storage terminal and killed him.
- vertigo32, on 11/20/2008, -3/+2As unfortunate as this plane crash was, the real tragedy is that it may have brought Blink 182 back together to write more ***** music.
- R1100S, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4Pilot error. V-speeds (Velocity Speeds)
V1- Maximum airspeed during takeoff roll when the pilot can safely abort takeoff with the remaining runway (calculated of runway length, a/c weight, altitutde of field, temp, ect).
V2- Rotation (takeoff speed)
V1 is basically your go/no-go decision point. If something happens above V1, you HAVE TO CONTINUE. YOU CAN'T STOP without running out of runway.
They screwed up.- rowjimmy, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2BUT WHAT IF THE PLANE IS ON A TREADMILL?????
- AUAviator, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1So I guess the question to ask now is: Is there a reason they reacted poorly or is there a way to train to address the decision making that led to the accident?
How much time do these guys spend at FlightSafety, etc. doing drills for this in sims? Would more sim training be beneficial? What are and how do we fix the possible systemic errors that contributed to this so that the rest of us can do our jobs better?- R1100S, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1That is a very valid question.
For my wife and I (both Comm/Inst. rated), V1 was instilled like a religion. Granted, we don't fly out of short airfields very often (never), but we still do a take-off briefing (including runway length, V-speeds, ect) just like anyone with an inkling of CRM training would do (and we're only in a Mooney).
I guess it's just instinct when something goes wrong to try and STOP. Only training can override instinct and teach you to follow procedure (the checklist) in emergency situations.
(Think: Engine out procedure on departure when you were learning how to fly. Sure...landing strait ahead seemed unnatural at the time...but would you even THINK about trying to make a 180deg. turn at low altitude now?) That instinct was broken, and the instinct to stand on the brakes above V1 should be broken too.
I guess it's easy to arm-chair quarterback this though. Who knows how a blown tire affected the performance/stability of the aircraft at such a high speed. - AUAviator, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1...Who knows how a blown tire affected the performance/stability of the aircraft at such a high speed...
Very true. It's a tough call to make.
It's nice to see other people like doing departure briefings, even single engine. Without that abort plan, the reflex really is to chop it and stop it and that is sometimes, like here unfortunately, the wrong call.
- R1100S, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1That is a very valid question.
- wrathoftheafe, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1I'M AT THE WRONG AIRPORT
- sq2shooter, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1The report was done by the US Department of No ***** Sherlock. They are now doing a report on whether most plane crashes are caused by running out of altitude.
- rowlodge, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1i would sit wherever they were sitting, if i ever rode in one of those.
- jshhmr, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Funny, I always thought V1 was your decision to go or no go. This is basic piloting. Sounds like major pilot error to me.
- LAhazmat, on 11/21/2008, -1/+1THIS IS SPAM made to look like a "old" story! Effen spamers!
