- cl2yp71c, on 11/18/2008, -1/+3Sam's getting in on the action now. :-O
- theokandroid, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1Sam's a bitch.
- WhiteMike87, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1His character is a lot better now that his secret has been revealed. Before there was just something about him that bugged me.
- thebadkitty, on 11/18/2008, -1/+4I've been a longtime fan of the book series (Dead Until Dark), so when the live-action TrueBlood came out, I was really excited to see the characters portrayed so well. Bill is ***** awesome.
Except that Tara bitch, who never appeared in the books. God I hate her. And not because she's black.- seforbes, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5I actually like Tara. She cracks me up.
- stonedgeek, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4I like her too, but I haven't been liking the demon exorcism storyline. I don't think she would've fallen for that *****. I can't wait to see the new episode tonight now that she knows it's a scam.
- WhiteMike87, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1I think Tara is supposed to be the opposite of Sookie, since they both really didn't grow up with parents. Sookie had her grandma, and Tara had her drunk mom.
- aduzik, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4But if it weren't for Tara and her drunk mother, my friends and I couldn't say "this demon's gnawing me up something fierce" when we want to drink.

(wait, was she not on the list?? wtf?) - Zandarrr, on 11/18/2008, -1/+5I have it. I love chicks who bite.
- passedoutghost, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3I'd totally let a vampire chick suck me dry any day or night.
- Pubert1, on 11/18/2008, -2/+0Frankly, I dont. Something about someone being undead and able to kill me with no trouble at all seems to turn me off a bit... but hey, maybe that's just me.
- ghostoftomjoad, on 11/18/2008, -1/+1have it
- TheUngod, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1I don't think it's a yes or no thing. As someone who frequents goth clubs, I find there are plenty of people who are very sexy who are "vampires," and plenty who are very, very not sexy. Really, it breaks down to if the person is hot to begin with.
That, or I guess I just don't have a vampire fetish.
- Dalhectar, on 11/17/2008, -3/+14Either way, they are no longer well written, the dialog causes dictionaries to spontaneously explode, and the plot holes you can drive a semi through... Thanks for ***** up the franchise, please don't do this to the rest of speculative fiction.
- kelalo, on 11/18/2008, -1/+6From Twilight:
"He lay perfectly still in the grass, his shirt open over his sculpted, incandescent chest, his scintillating arms bare. His glistening, pale lavender lids were shut, though of course he didn’t sleep. A perfect statue, carved in some unknown stone, smooth like marble, glittering like crystal."

- Atmandk, on 11/18/2008, -1/+3I thought it was about the stinky kid with a greasy pony tail, black trench coat, and fedora with a red feather doing card tricks and smoking cigarettes outside the community college cafeteria.

- IRAcarbombs, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3Gary Oldman's "Dracual" character was one of the best ever ... as far as acting. Where the hell is the red head from Bordella of Blood.
- bunkster, on 11/17/2008, -1/+9Sex has always been a part of the Vampire story.
- Kerath, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4No, just since Le Fanu and Stoker. I would argue that, before Carmilla and Dracula, succubi and incubi were the creatures of the night most associated with sex.
- spaceddaisy, on 11/18/2008, -1/+3But succibi and incubi are the basis for the vampire myth, so it can be argued that there has always been an air of sexuality around them?
- Kerath, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4I don't think succubi and incubi are the basis for the vampire myth; rather they were subsumed into vampire mythology in the 18th and, moreso, the 19th centuries. Seduction was not a big part of earlier vampire mythology.
The basis for early vampire beliefs is usually thought to be a series of physical phenomena that occur in bodies after death, in addition to certain diseases. - spaceddaisy, on 11/18/2008, -1/+1The vampire mythology as we know it started coming up in the 18th century. But it is an evolution and combination of specific folk legends across the world. Yes, some beliefs were based on phenomena of dying/dead bodies, other were based on unexplained deaths of people in the community.
Those myths come from all over the world and have as their basis creatures feeding of human life energy or blood. Succubi are in my opinion a kind of vampire from legends in old Europe.
Stories evolved and came together and led to the current view of vampires we have. But it doesn't mean succubi were not someone along in the chain.
Edit; The wikipedia page on Vampires actually has a good collection of information on origins and older beliefs with a lot of referenced source material
- kocurejd, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1At least in literature, sexual symbolism is always inherent in vampires.
- Kerath, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4No, just since Le Fanu and Stoker. I would argue that, before Carmilla and Dracula, succubi and incubi were the creatures of the night most associated with sex.

- theskillwithin, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2Vampires may be a fetish but that doesn't make them sexy to most people. Real life aint the movies folks.
- kelalo, on 11/18/2008, -0/+12I love vampires, except ones that sparkle in sunlight. WTF?
- WhiteMike87, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1Yeah, my sister told me that's what happened to the Twilight vampires. Where they just look too beautiful that they don't look human coughgaycough.
- fangs4evrything, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1I think I got through like the first 10 minutes of the first show and I just couldn't freaking take it. VAMPIRES ARE WORTHLESS OR DEAD IN SUNLIGHT. Ugh, disgusts me enough for a facepalm.

- fangs4evrything, on 11/18/2008, -2/+0Considering the stupid series is a "drama" and the original awesome movie was a "comedy", I really couldn't take it.

- Nateon, on 11/18/2008, -1/+8Seeing the Brad Pitt vampire reminded me how ***** of a vampire Tom Cruise was in that movie.
- TheImaginator, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3Most of the time vampires in movies look completely ridiculous, if not because there fangs are in the wrong place then because of their behaviour - camp or hamming it up to the point of comedy.
Not dark comedy, more like pantomime. - KrazyGamerHead, on 11/18/2008, -1/+5Ok I might be a vampire n00b but one thing I never understood. I thought vampires couldn't go out in the sun, so how do we have these daywalker vampires, or is there something else out there in vampire lore that I don't know?
- Ellipsys, on 11/18/2008, -1/+5There's always some plot device to enable a select few vampires, usually main protagonists and antagonists to do so. When its a protagonist usually its something like being "half vampire" think the Blade and "D" variety. It could also be some sort of "medical" treatment, magic, or simply age/power. Usually the antagonist either "steals" special abilities some how, or is immune to normal vampiric weaknesses because of advanced age and therefore power - vampires almost always grow stronger with age since their turning.
- keeperofkeys, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1They're pretty strict about this in the Buffyverse. There is the odd occasion where a vamp is hit by the sun's rays and lives, but it's always explained; eg the Gem of Amara protects vamps from all harm, including being staked, but it's only in a couple of episodes. We often see Angel outside in daylight in Buffy's dreams, but that makes the "reality" more poignant - the life they could never have. Sob.
- Pthalio, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1One of the best parts of Buffy was Spike running around in daylight covered in a smoking blanket and occasionally catching on fire.
- Plotinus, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5Sorry to be a pain and, you know, accurate, but Dracula was totally able to be around during the daylight, it wasn't fatal to him it merely limited his powers.
Most traditions don't have daylight killing vampires. The burning up if touched by sunlight is a hollywood addition (and even that was post Nosferatu).
They can't handle hawthorn, roses thickets or uncountable piles of objects, e.g. sand, rice, grain, which they have to stop to count.
Oh, and they're fictional. So they can be stopped by not reading any further. - fangs4evrything, on 11/18/2008, -0/+0Aside from that, the original vampire mythos likened them more to zombies than anything else. They COULD come out during the day, but the night serves as better cover. And when the family of the recently deceased, when digging up these people that were suspected of walking around at night, would misinterpret certain things about the body's condition that we know are natural today. Like the bloating of the body, the rosy complexion, the gums and skin around the nails retracting to give the look of fangs and growing fingernails, etc.
No, I'm not an expert.............

- revglenn, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5vampires should never have been sexy. 30 Days Of Night is the only movie I've seen get vampires right in at least a decade.
vampire myths were meant to terrify and teach lessons.
early vampire stories were a metaphor for rape. as in you're not supposed to want it.... so why are girls so hot for vampires these days? - liquisoft, on 11/18/2008, -0/+7Teenage girls agree: vampires are sexy.
Nevermind that they're technically dead, soulless bloodsuckers. The teen girls just like effeminate pretty boys with soft, pale skin. - RobotKeaton, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3Of course vampires are sexy. Who hasn't jerked off while watching Nosferatu?

- sexysistah, on 11/18/2008, -1/+0different folks with different strokes..so need i say more?
- vurnt22, on 11/18/2008, -0/+0 It's a shame that most modern (filmed) vampyre stories update every aspect to match the myth up to modern time's (sexy, rich, cool clothes, blah blah), but totally avoid the impact that AIDS and other blood borne diseases (like Sickle Cell Anemia) would have on the vampyre population. Like humans, vampyre's should be vulnerable to food poisoning.
Goddamned Blood Junkies!!!- fangs4evrything, on 11/18/2008, -1/+0Sorry, but if you're dead, diseases have no bearing on ...uh... non-life functioning.
- vurnt22, on 11/24/2008, -0/+0Ah, that's the problem---Vampyrism is on some level an organic process-otherwise the creatures wouldn't need blood. Hunger, however poetically it's dressed up is (at least partially) organic in nature.
- Soave, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3I die a little inside everytime my girl friends talk about Twilight :(.
- Jareth86, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4Dugg for true blood. Seriously underrated show that doesn't get the attention it deserves.

- dlan4327, on 11/18/2008, -1/+1I've always had the vampire fetish. Anne Rice is pretty much to blame for that. The only thing sexier than a vampire is a witch. Imagine both.
