- BoonTobias, on 12/01/2008, -11/+4Yeah, i didn't like prologue much, the final game must be very polished.
I didn't buy Grid, burnout or any racing games because of this one, and the fact that none of the news games have local multiplayer..
I'm still playing 4 and it still kicks ass - ZaxCG2, on 12/01/2008, -1/+5Needless to say, I'm sure looking through the complete list of automobiles you can use will be spine-tingling. :3
- askjeffro, on 12/01/2008, -1/+6Looks like its going to be GT5 vs Forza 3. Should be one heck of fight when these games drop late next year.
Someone should open a virtual stock market on these two titles so people can place their bets on which one ends up being better; would be real interesting to see the predictive power the masses have in this regard. However I anticipate it may come down to personal taste once the games come out.- neFariou5, on 12/02/2008, -9/+4It'll be just like the original xbox. Every xbox fanboy would tell me that Project Gotham Racing pwned Gran Turismo, and then I borrowed an xbox and PGR, what an awful game that was. But xbox fanboys continued to tell me it was better than GT.
Same with Forza, which is a GT clone but more arcade-style with the driving semi-automatic that tells you exactly where to drive and when to brake.
I'm sure Forza 3 will be the same, and GT continues to better everything else. But xbox fanboys will always claim the opposite just because they're xbox fanboys. - apena89, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1intrade?

- Relaxxation, on 12/01/2008, -5/+832009? Don't tell me about stuff that far in advance. If I hear hype for a year then by the time it comes out I'm gonna feel like it's old and pass it by.
- chaosblade77, on 12/01/2008, -2/+10It seems like most developers/publishers have trouble getting the timing right for hyping and advertising a game before release. It's almost always too early (SCE) or too late (Nintendo).
I guess you can't really come up with a "best time for announcement" that works for every game since they are all different. Still, I think the "Smash Bros Strategy" was great, it just didn't account for the delays of the game. Hopefully we see more unique(?) ways of promoting games in the future.- YoctoYotta, on 12/02/2008, -1/+2Yeah, I agree, most publishers are pretty bad about it. I think 6 to 8 months is good for the actual heavy promotion. When developers are doing things like podcasts and community oriented sites, such as with Bioshock's and MGS 4's release, it's just enough time to put out a lot of good content and most people aren't bored to death of it.
Actually announcing a game is going into development and then going into communication silence isn't such a bad thing for me necessarily, and usually in those cases, it's going to be a game like GT5, or Final Fantasy XIII, or GTA4, or Super Mario Galaxy, which in those cases, it's a no-brainer that something from the franchise will be released eventually. Whether that's a bad thing is up to your obsession with the thought of not having it.
I can usually let it go these days, but I remember going through hell between The Wizard's theatrical release in December of '89 and Super Mario Bros. 3 coming out in mid-February the next year. I can't remember anything on earth I wanted more badly.

- joekm, on 12/02/2008, -0/+0"sin" was actually the game that was hyped to hell during the time leading up to the original half-life release. they were both released right around the same time, sin ended up sucking and half-life (as we all know) was amazing and hit even harder since it was the underdog.

- sig7, on 12/01/2008, -6/+2Don't be an idiot. Sales figures do not directly correlate to game quality. Especially when said game is part of a niche genre like racing Sims.
- staticneuron, on 12/01/2008, -2/+2Of course it seems niche to you. Racers rarely ever make it to a million on PC's. And thats like with an installed base of what? 300 million plus? When the PS2 has an install base of 120 million and a game like Gran Turismo 3 sells 9 million then it is bound to have some attention.

Edit: "arguably the PlayStation 3's most-wanted game" - actually, that title would right now belong to either Killzone 2 or God of War 3, especially after what David Jaffe saw of the latter.- kingmanic, on 12/01/2008, -4/+5GT5 is higher on my list than killzone 2 or GoW3. It was GT5, FFXIII, Disgeae 3, and MGS4 which motivated me to get a PS3 at launch. It's been worth it.
- Remelox, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1It does say argueably. Either you don't understand what the word means or you are arguing to show the author was correct. Oh, and it is my most anticipated game. That and Forza 3. Although I have yet to see a racing game do what I want, people do seem to be getting closer. Most of the pieces exist in other games but no one has put the package together right.

- JackMacBastard, on 12/02/2008, -1/+7Rev is quite right. We have a lot to be thankful for in terms of games this year for every system. Apparently there is something negative about that though.
- chiefbandit2200, on 12/02/2008, -1/+4He's right. There were so many great games that came out this year for both consoles (and PC).
MGS4
Gears of War 2
LittleBigPlanet
GTA IV
Dead Space
Fallout 3
Fable 2
Soul Calibur IV
Resistance 2
Motorstorm 2
Left 4 Dead
Also - a lot more. It is great time to be a gamer.
- staticneuron, on 12/01/2008, -12/+4Um... the only other big name release this year for either console is Prince of Persia. And I cannot think of one for the Wii.

- staticneuron, on 12/01/2008, -1/+10I think you need to check your calendar MrSticky. If a RE5 demo only going to be released in Japan this week I highly doubt we will see a worldwide release for RE5 for 2008.

- quomen, on 12/01/2008, -10/+3You're just a fanboy Arcade Junkies.. Take another look at the games. There are some great ones out.
- Treshnell, on 12/01/2008, -4/+19This was the year of the 360, from a Christmas perspective anyway. All the best game console deals have been 360 deals. PS3 hasn't really had anything that makes you want to go out and buy it right now.
With the 5 free bluray movies, last year was PS3's chance to shine at Christmas. I missed out on that deal, and was hoping for a similar deal this year, but it looks like I'm left out again.
Here's to hoping for next year's deals!- lennybird, on 12/01/2008, -2/+5Working at Target, I can tell you the Wii and its games are rapidly out-selling the PS3 and 360 combined.
- mike17032, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3People buying it to use as a BR player dont help Sony win the console war, thats how they got themselves into this mess. It might move consoles, but if they move to people that never buy games it hardly matters. The PS3 has a terrible attach rate, and you can bet all the developers know that.
The Wii isnt a whole lot better for 3rd parties. Sure everything Nintendo makes is gold and flys off the shelves. But again thats not going to attract exclusive titles from 3rd parties. The one advantage the Wii has is its much cheaper and shorter development cycle, people dont expect top notch graphics. - SreyaNotfilc, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1Excellent point mike. The point of creating a killer console is to have the software subsidize the dollars loss for creating the console. Sony may earn money for every Blu-Ray disc sold, but it hardly match the amount they get from software sold on the PS3. The PS2 was successful in both fronts because DVDs was a "neccessity" as the VHS slowly dissapeared, but the high def format isn't needed (although I'd rather have one than a DVD). Also, they were out early enough to give damage to the Dreamcast as well as hold off the Gamecube and the Xbox with their hardware and software.
Hopefully Sony can find it's way out. I hate to see a company have to pinch pennies because of one "wrong" move.
- kingmanic, on 12/01/2008, -11/+8fun things out lately:
Exclusives :
-Valkyria Chronicles
-Little Big Planet
-Disgea 3
multi - platformers
-Prince of Persia
-mirrors edge
-COD 5
-MK vs DC- cozinator, on 12/01/2008, -9/+3I'm really not hearing much about LBP, especially after everyone was hyping it as a system-seller. It has to be a considered a letdown.
- staticneuron, on 12/01/2008, -1/+6The game sales seem to be quite mum. But the reviews and my personal experience prove it is not a letdown. It has a metascore higher than gears 2 and halo 3. And thats even with the BS scores from variety and jolt.
- kinseyincanada, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3dude forgot Fallout 3
- Spire3660, on 12/01/2008, -12/+5No console has a racer that even comes close to GT. Forza is a joke, especially with the MS steering wheel.
- Barbarino, on 12/01/2008, -3/+6Forza is ok compared to GT, GT is still better but I won't shell out money to buy a PS3 just for GT...
- BoonTobias, on 12/01/2008, -6/+3pgr is actually quite good, better than gt i'd say, and yes forza is a joke
- mike17032, on 12/01/2008, -3/+2I prefer Forza, hands down. I even prefer PGR, though by a much smaller margin.
- staticneuron, on 12/01/2008, -1/+3Thats because you seem to be a fanboy mike..... I hate to tell you like this..... I hope you were sitting down.
PGR is an arcade racer and i wouldn't even compare it to the likes of Sims like forza and GT. But in the eyes of many car enthusiasts, real world racers, and millions of gamers, GT has forza beat.
GT5P is 2.3 million versus Forza 2s 2.2 million. And that is with the 360 having a 6 million lead on their install base. And GT5P isn't even a full game. If that doesn't speak volumes........
btw just kidding about the fanboy part........ unless you are one. O.o
- mike17032, on 12/01/2008, -5/+8When you look at exclusives at least, its abysmal for Sony. Its not going to get any better either, since the game sales for the PS3 lag so far behind the 360 you wont see any developers going exclusive to the PS3 unless Sony brings dump trucks full of money to their HQs. The attach rate is just awful for the PS3.
That said even with just the cross platform stuff there is still plenty to play this christmas. Fallout 3 is a great example.
I still am glad that I have a 360 over a PS3 though, missing out on Fable 2, Gears 2, and the other exclusives would suck.- staticneuron, on 12/01/2008, -3/+7What are you talking about? 8 out of the 9 million sellers on the PS3 are exclusive. 7 of them are first party. 6 of them didn't sell boatloads day one.. or even in the first month. Just like the last generation the playstation titles have legs. The killer app mentality is something that rode in from the PC gamers into the console world via the xbox. Explosive sales that virtual sales death is not better than moderate sales then legs for years.
The attachment rate is what. PS3 -5.3 Wii- 5.5 360 - 6.6 for first 23 months and 5.3 is horrible?
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3171200
What other exclusives does the 360 have aside from Gears, halo, dead rising and fable? As an owner of both systems I can honestly say nothing else really. Especially if you also have a gaming PC.
What is it with 360 fans, are they seriously that misinformed or are they just miniature fud factories? - kingmanic, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3Per year the attach rate is nearly the same for all 3 major consoles.

- Remelox, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1Damage will be in. How good it will be is leaft to be seen. I think it was the original Forza where I got tired of seeing the same damn bouncing bumper damage on the replays. Some of the games out there have incredible damage effects but are not really simulators.
What I really want to see is cars that can flip. Old car licenses didn't allow damage because the auto makers were afraid of people thinking their cars wrecked easily. They finally let off on that fallacy but they drew the line at flipping and anything that could be viewed as fatal. I don't know how they feel about that now. The companies that are worst about it are Ferrari and Porsche and prestige companies like that.
I also want to be able to drive off the track and over a cliff if one is near. Especially if there is a chance of landing on a car below.

Seriously find something else to do if you dont like the ps3-what a b!%^& - frepnog, on 12/01/2008, -2/+6"LOL @ Halo 3 as "most wanted" game. LOL."
laugh all you want... but a game that sells that much in ONE ***** DAY and is arguably one of the most played online games this side of WoW pretty much says it all.
nothing on PS3 gets played like Halo 3. and you know it. - frepnog, on 12/01/2008, -2/+4to sonicbliss -
i know LBP is a good game. i bought it myself. But just like i keep saying - it doesn't matter if NO ONE IS BUYING IT. Just like i predicted, it simply isnt selling, and the fact that i have seen most of the copies that DID sell for sale again used at Gamestop tells me what I already knew - that it was on the wrong system.
as far as the rest of your comment - please, grow up. - kronix2, on 12/01/2008, -2/+3"LOL @ Halo 3 as "most wanted" game. LOL."
Halo 3 had the biggest opening weekend for any game/movie/album/DVD ever. There's nothing funny about that.
Right now, the 360's most wanted game is Gears 2. It's sold 3 million, while Resistance 2 will probably only barely break 1 million. - chaosblade77, on 12/02/2008, -1/+4I'm pretty sure Mario Galaxy is the highest rated exclusive on any currently supported console. LBP is a 2 point second.
That aside, how can a game that's already released be the "most wanted" game? I assume we're talking about future releases people want, not games that came out last month that people already have. - jermm, on 12/02/2008, -0/+2CoD:4 and GTA 4, but they are multiplatform.
So Gears. - Elranzer, on 12/02/2008, -0/+2Most wanted on the 360? Final Fantasy XIII
- apena89, on 12/03/2008, -1/+1@ frepnog
Using sales to justify how good a game was? fail. LBP has a higher press average than any x360 game to date. Numbers don't mean better game.
LBP was just straight up FUN. Legit fun too. Not "this-game-is-hardcore!" fun. It is more like "ROFLMFAO-OMG-I-DIED-WTF!-AHHAHAHAHA;-WHAT-THE-TIT?!" fun.
- tnoy, on 12/01/2008, -1/+3I'm glad I own both.
GT5 will be a lot of fun.
- awtripp, on 12/01/2008, -7/+13Why? What is the 360's most wanted game?
- dacrazydude, on 12/01/2008, -4/+29WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE. Give me my GT5 already.
- illogik, on 12/01/2008, -4/+32I completely forgot GT5 has even existed. It has been off the radar far soooo long.
- HeyArnold, on 12/01/2008, -12/+12LOL, whatever.
why dont they sell more demos?, or just say that GT5 is the biggest crock of ***** since Duke Nukem forever! - nmezib, on 12/01/2008, -4/+21They're still making it?
oh yeah, and ask them whatever the hell happened with Gran Turismo for the PSP. Try not to laugh as they fumble across an answer. Seriously, it's just sad.- ThaDRD, on 12/01/2008, -3/+10No doubt. - HolyChimp, on 12/01/2008, -0/+2MS must be doing something right if people are still buying 360s KNOWING that they'll fail. Maybe that's because the 360 has games out now rather than 'next year'.
- jellygraph, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1true... the xbox sucks as well, but for some reason or another, people are buying them more than the ps3. i might get one too... it's probably the price. but, in all honesty, i feel sorry for sony

- Rothgarr, on 12/01/2008, -4/+15When does Forza 3 come out? (speaking of driving sims...)
- Spire3660, on 12/01/2008, -21/+3Lol calling Forza a racing sim compared to GT5 is being kind at best.
- Spire3660, on 12/02/2008, -8/+2NO idea while im being buried. The Forza dev team doesnt have anywhere NEAR the industry pull the Polyphony Digital team has. Polyphony Digital MADE the in car telemetry interface on the new Nissan GT-R. Forza has no racing pedigree whatsoever. Plus the steering wheel selection on the Xbox is horrible compared to the PS3.
- DeepFreezed, on 12/02/2008, -2/+3have you played Forza2? phailed
- Spire3660, on 12/03/2008, -0/+0I would if I was allowed to use my legacy GT4 steering wheel that i can use on my PS3/PC, instead of that MS piece of crap wheel.
- sturmgiest, on 12/02/2008, -1/+1spire if you want a real racing game get gtr evolution. neither forza nor gt are realistic.
- MeatMountain, on 12/01/2008, -5/+25Yay, a "realistic" racing game. I can't wait to pop this game in and get my C level drivers license by trying to get a good score on a braking test in a simulated Honda Civic and failing it 100 times.
- BoonTobias, on 12/01/2008, -0/+11i'm doing that right now in gt4, man braking that viper is a bitch!
- strictnein, on 12/01/2008, -0/+2/thread
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 12/01/2008, -2/+13It takes you 100 times to pass your license test? Maybe racing games aren't for you.
That said, the license system in the GT games are the only thing that made the game any fun at all. Without it I would have surely given up from frustration with not known how to drive. That's not to mention that I also learned quite a bit about the mechanics of driving a real car just from those exams and playing the game.
If you're into cars it's all fun. If not then I wouldn't play it if I were you. Either way, why complain? No one is going to make you play it, and just because you don't find it appealing doesn't mean no one else does either. - dysonlu, on 12/01/2008, -2/+6You bought the wrong game, buddy. GTA, not GT, is the "driving" game suitable for you.
- bduddy, on 12/01/2008, -2/+13Uhh... seriously, it's not that hard.
*X*
*wait 900 metres*
*square*
If you can't do that, what kind of games do you play?
- Maazer, on 12/01/2008, -2/+3We'll see a THIRD demo before this comes out.
- ThaDRD, on 12/01/2008, -2/+8I can't even play Gran Turismo Prologue after playing Wipeout HD.
- FredFredrickson, on 12/01/2008, -3/+10I love how Sony promised a few huge games like FF13, MGS4, and GT5 to entice people to buy the system early on, and has only delivered one of those games since the console's release two years ago. Guess they wanted people to buy a bunch of $30 Blu-Ray movies in the interim?
- kronix2, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5Don't forget that FFXIII is due out on 360. There's also Tekken 6, which is slated for both platforms.
I wonder how many people would've bought a PS3 at launch if they'd known GTA IV, FFXIII and Tekken 6 would get simultaneous 360 releases.- chaosblade77, on 12/02/2008, -1/+1I guess that depends on how many people bought a $600 console for one game. After the FF13 complaints, I'd actually say the difference wouldn't be all that major.
I can't think of any reason why someone would complain about a game going multiplatform unless they are a complete fanboy, in which case they wouldn't be caught with the 360 anyway. - roxya, on 12/02/2008, -1/+1I complained when it went multiplatform because it more than likely means a delay of the PS3 version while the 360 version is being made (seeing as they said they won't touch the 360 port until the Japanese version is done and dusted).
I don't care about a game being elsewhere unless it affects me. - kronix2, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3"I can't think of any reason why someone would complain about a game going multiplatform unless they are a complete fanboy, in which case they wouldn't be caught with the 360 anyway."
@chaosblade77: Exclusives come into play when deciding which console to buy. Somebody may have bought a PS3 in the assumption that those three games would remain exclusives, as they'd been during the PS1 and PS2 generations.
If people had known at launch that they could play GTA IV, FFXIII and Tekken 6 on a console half the price, wouldn't some have bought a 360? The only reason I bought a 360 was because of GTA IV. Now I'm glad, because practically ever great third-party game is multiplatform (due to the PS3's failure in its first year) and because the PS3 is now cheap enough to justify a purchase.

- ncc74656m, on 12/01/2008, -13/+7::sigh:: Sony killed the PS3, nobody else. I had such high hopes for it based on its hardware and the (still incredible) success of the PS2. It had so many exclusives prior to launch that it was destined to slaughter the 360, and despite all of the advantages it had, and all the pitfalls of the 360 (at launch, not now), it's hard to understand how it could've all gone so wrong.
Oh, and yes, I'm a hardcore XBOX fan, and I've just played with your heartstrings. Remember, the only reason PS3 fans constantly bury XBOX fans is because of sickening jealousy. BURY ME!!!- plingboot, on 12/01/2008, -3/+9Oh come on the ps3 is far from dead. And I say that as a day one 360 owner. Microsoft have to practically give the thing away in order to compete with PS3. 360 feels cheap and cheerful, you very much get what you pay for with the 360. Mine sits on a box covered in fans -its nosy, temperamental and uses clunky 13 year old dvds. To me, it's as if microsoft cobbled together a 'next gen' system from bits and pieces they had lying around, whereas Sony engineered a true next gen system from scratch, cell processor, blue ray, free psn. Maybe it took longer to get to market, but good stuff takes time. The fact that their greatest game is still not available should tell you something about the quality coming out of the sony camp. The next time my 360 dies I'll bin it and buy a ps3.
- sonicbliss, on 12/01/2008, -5/+1Amen plingboot! FINALLY some sense! 360 is cheap as sh!t
- HolyChimp, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3I can't agree more with this. It's also why I can't recommend the PS3 to anyone asking me for advice for present buying this Christmas.
With the 360 you get what you pay for, with the PS3 you'll eventually get what you paid for, so why not buy it next year when the price has dropped?

Little Big Planet has only been out a few weeks and since when do sales determine how good a game is? Some of the best games I've ever played had critical acclaim and low sales. Deus Ex and System Shock 2 are two examples.

- sonicbliss, on 12/01/2008, -1/+5therodge
Seriously, the link you provide to base the fact that games "suck" is to a graphics comparison... where even on the site they state:
"We're at the point where games look and play nearly the same on both systems--any differences tend to focus on texture resolutions and antialiasing nitpicks that most people wouldn't notice unless they were playing the games side by side and pausing every few seconds to compare the two"- Like a saddo.
Seriously stop being so sad, its nitpicking the site says it themselves and its not even onesided, many games look *marginally* better on ps3 as the 360. if you want to say the games suck maybe argue something more substantial? - frepnog, on 12/01/2008, -4/+1"its not even onesided, many games look *marginally* better on ps3 as the 360"
not really. it usually turns out that it either looks BETTER on 360, or they look the same. I think the only game that even marginally looked better on PS3 was Oblivion, but by the time that came out who the ***** cared? unfortunately for Sony, the XBOX 360's superior graphics hardware keeps the score pretty lopsided. NOTHING on PS3 looks better than the best AAA games on XBOX.
that has to hurt, at least a little, after all the ***** about 50 gig blu-ray games delivering unbelievable graphics, when your best game on a blu-ray doesnt look as good as the best game that came on a DVD9. - kronix2, on 12/01/2008, -2/+1That would have been true if Sony wasn't stupid enough to lose the exclusives for GTA IV, Tekken 6 and FFXIII.

- Sabin, on 12/02/2008, -2/+3So Fallout and Dead Space look better on the 360, SCIV looks better on the PS3 and everything else looks the same more or less except for the PS3 having slightly better lighting effects.
- kronix2, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1GTA IV looks better on the 360 or PS3, depending on your viewpoint. The 360 version runs at 720p and has a much higher frame rate, while the PS3 version runs at 640p, runs at a slower frame rate, but reportedly has better explosion effects and so on.
I've only seen GTA IV for PS3 on an SDTV, so I can't comment on the visual quality, but the frame rate is noticeably lower than the 360 version.

If it were me, I'd put the game out sans a lot of cars, then start adding cars XBL. Build it as you go, don't charge for new cars.- HolyChimp, on 12/01/2008, -0/+1Great idea, but that's not how businesses run. How do you pay all the people making all of those new cars if you're giving them away for free?
- chaosblade77, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1It's no different than what they are doing now, aside from the fact we don't have the game yet. Right now, they aren't getting ANY money. If they released the base game, then followed it up with car releases via free DLC, they would be making money off of game sales already, plus the DLC could act as an advertisement to keep interest in the game up, potentially resulting in more sales.
It's not feasible because of the space limitations. While any PS3 model aside from the 20GB could probably handle that much content, I doubt anybody wants 20GB or so of their hard drive taken up by GT5 DLC (not to mention the time it would take to download if you got the game a couple years after release). Sure, there's the option to upgrade the hard drives, but a lot of people aren't going to want to do that.
