- Bogo, on 11/03/2008, -2/+29It's true though - most of the ending movies in a trilogy suck because its so easy to pull money from them (*cough* Matrix *cough*). The ones that pull it off generally create an amazing franchise which makes money for years to come - hopefully Batman can be one of those as well.
- maximilen, on 11/04/2008, -1/+7Matrix 2 in addition to 3 was an epic failure in every possible way... Except for the special effects.. Well, actually those were too, because they gave all the good scenes away in the damn previews, those money-hungry genetic defectives...
- Ravatar, on 11/04/2008, -2/+9That's what happens when you've stolen the brilliant first script and then have to come up with the ***** for the sequels yourself.
- Muzztein, on 11/04/2008, -1/+1HAHA... you did not get it
- AManWithNoName, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1How dare you mention that movie on Digg! My screen's been tainted with Keanu Reeves now.

- ianlons, on 11/04/2008, -0/+2I'm digging you up, my friend
- CaptMonkey, on 11/03/2008, -0/+49Don't forget Army of Darkness and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
- ultraseamus, on 11/04/2008, -0/+5True, "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" was my favorite of the 3. Although "For a Few Dollars More" was a close second.
- jcarpent, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3Shop smart; shop S-Mart.
- gmuslera, on 11/03/2008, -11/+5LOTR3 wasnt a different movie than the other 2 parts... were all a single movie, a bit too long to show it alone.
And for every good example, there is a LOT of very bad examples easy to reemember (matrix, terminator, spiderman, batman). In fact, there are wrong ways to count to 3 when 2 and 3 are created around the same time, both are just a big part 2 split into chapters (with matrix and back to the future happened that, i think).
And about second parts, not always are as good as the 1st, but sometimes they could be actually better (i..e. T2). Can Nolan reinvent again Batman in a good way?- ryansmith18, on 11/03/2008, -1/+4terminator was a bad example. A trilogy doesn't have a 4th movie as its ending.
batman hasn't had a trilogy until possibly now. I believe the others were all independent of one another. Could be wrong about this one - I'm a bit young to remember the other Batman movies clearly.
Of course the 3rd spiderman sucked. It had to keep up with what the first two did for it.
Even though I'm a big fan of it, I'll give you credit on The Matrix trilogy. :-/- brsteve88, on 11/04/2008, -1/+1Terminator isn't a bad example at all. First of all he didn't say anything about them being trilogies, and some of the movies in this list weren't trilogies. Also, the fourth movie looks to be setting up a new storyline for Terminator, seeing as it's after the machines take over.
Finally, we can't forget that Terminator 3 was atrocious. - specialK16, on 11/04/2008, -1/+2@brstve88
You don't a thing about Terminator if you think the fourth movie is a new storyline because "it is after the machines take over". Also, there is no doubt the T2 is the best of them all, and even though I have high hopes for T4 I doubt it will be better than T2, but I really enjoyed T3. - brsteve88, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1No, I think I do KNOW a thing about Terminator. The producers are trying to start a new trilogy with this movie assuming it's successful.

- McHaleR, on 11/04/2008, -1/+16Die hard with a vengeance was a fantastic third movie.
- serpentor, on 11/04/2008, -5/+1Wow, we must have been watching different movies.. DH3 was doomed the moment it was rated PG13, not to mention the movie itself was a turd.
- whahaa, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1DH3 was rated R.
DH4 was PG-13, and was a turd.
- serpentor, on 11/04/2008, -1/+1Why is gmuslera being dugg down for raising apt counter-examples?
- BigDaddyBucyk, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1 wrong! LOTR was 3 different movies, cause it's from 3 different books. (Yeah, I know that they were written together.)
- ryansmith18, on 11/03/2008, -1/+4terminator was a bad example. A trilogy doesn't have a 4th movie as its ending.

- Disturbedsavio, on 11/04/2008, -4/+2YES!
The final fight in the matrix revolutions was like a live action Dragon Ball Z film.
THEY WERE FLYING AND MOVING AT SUPER SPEED AND DOING KUNG FU! It was so cool, you gotta see it. - styx31989, on 11/04/2008, -2/+2are you sure you are 18? You wouldn't lie to me, would you?

- IAmTheGuy, on 11/04/2008, -1/+3I'd definitely want Prisoner of Azkaban to be taken out then Die Hard take the number 6 spot and push everything else up.
- Cainsable, on 11/04/2008, -1/+0Sorry, as much as I love Die Hard, it can't take Prisoner of Azkaban out. Return should come out before Prisoner.
- Tyrghast, on 11/04/2008, -3/+6I have to agree with him on the poor quality of The Dark Knight's action sequences... The shaky-cam and quick-cut fads need to go die a quiet death.
- MyNameIsGusto, on 11/04/2008, -2/+2I think you need to re-watch TDK, because the skaky fight scenes were non-existant. The second I saw the first fight scene in the parking lot I said to myself "Wow, he listened to the critics and used a steady camera in fights."
- Tyrghast, on 11/04/2008, -1/+2I don't know what movie you're watching, but all the fight scenes, especially the hong kong and hostage boats ones we're unwatchable.
- B3000, on 11/04/2008, -6/+1And how about the ***** "Let's shoot every fight in an eye level medium two shot." crap. Talk about the most boring shot known to man. Chris Nolan is a hack. The Dark Knight was crap. ***** all the sheep.
- ZigVicious, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3You go ***** those sheep. Have fun...
- theOster, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1i feel like the rapid cuts allow for a better suspension of disbelief. i imagine things are getting ***** UP, rather than most fight scenes where you take an aerial view and start thinking 'why are they attacking one at a time?' and 'no way you can punch someone across a room' and 'if this was played in real motion, theres no way he can dodge those bullets'. anyway, i like the closeup 'cant tell whats going on' shots.

While I'm at it Friday the 13th Part 3 in 3-D - AK911Carrera, on 11/04/2008, -3/+18I want to see more Bourne movies.
- antdude, on 11/04/2008, -1/+1Only if they are good.
- crazyhorse13, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1I don't know how they could do it though. They tied off the ending perfectly, imo. If they try to do any more, it will likely end up stretching the franchise too far.
- ant9821, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1There are already 5 Bourne books. Granted, the last two weren't written by Robert Ludnum, but the stories are already written.
- crazyhorse13, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1They any good?
- AK911Carrera, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1Stories are ehh.. fourth one is about terrorism. it does captivate and capture you but it doesn't appeal as much as the first three. but hopefully hollywood proves me wrong
- geodebug, on 11/04/2008, -1/+1Not me. Stories are great but the crappy visual style of the shake-cam makes them unwatchable. Only one I can enjoy without feeling nauseous is the first.
Shake-cam movies have got to go. 1) They make people sick 2) they are a lazy cover-up vs. well planned/staged stunts and effects.
- whativewanted, on 11/04/2008, -4/+5Christopher Nolan could make a claymation third Batman film out of lumps of his ***** and it would probably still be a great movie.
- B3000, on 11/04/2008, -9/+1The Dark Knight is a lump of Christopher Nolan's *****.
***** overrated garbage.- crazyhorse13, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1So when a movie is hyped like crazy, you must automatically assume that it's garbage. I admit, that probably works in most cases, but to say that Dark Knight was a bad movie is a bit much.
- Plasmodia, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3I could eat a box of alphabet crackers and ***** out a better comment than you.

I'll admit, I'm biased against Jackson; indeed, I want to drag that fat sonofabitch to Mordor for some 'creative filmmaking' classes.
However, when the credits finally started to roll when I saw RotK in (a very crowded) theatre, only a single woman started clapping. Very briefly. Before she stopped, appearing embarassed. Therefore, Digg, I submit to you that it is not my hatred of Jackson's butchery of Tolkien that makes me believe RotK blew asschunks, but the fact that it quite actually did blow asschunks. From bad acting, to nonsensical plot additions, to the weakest ending ever imagined. (I can't help myself here - Jackson, Jackson! The ending Tolkien provided was only passable when it included the Scouring of the Shire!)
Okay, I'll stop. Anyhow, buried. And a third Batman movie would kick just as much ass as the first two. Deal with it.- DeathRay2K, on 11/04/2008, -2/+19Do people often clap at the ends of movies? I've only ever seen it happen once, at the end of Cloverfield.
One person clapping is better than none, like most movies get.- AManWithNoName, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1I clap my hands at the end of lots of movies. I clapped for TDK for a good solid 5 minutes.
- Bra1nStew, on 11/04/2008, -6/+1Although I don't think adding the "Scouring of the Shire" would have been a good idea, the whole idea of having the retarded army of ghosts show up, destroying the entire orc army was stupid. Correct me if I'm wrong here but don't they only clear the ports so some ships can land, not kill everything? It's been a while since I read the books but seriously, either way that was stupid. You see Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas for about 20min that's movie. And leaving out SO damn much for the final battle... argh.
Fellowship was awesome.
Tow Towers was really good.
Return of the King, a piece of *****. - serpentor, on 11/04/2008, -0/+10I'll at least say that RoTK was no better than TTT or FoTR (and I think most would agree on this point). To put it above the rest if silly. They were all fantastic (though I prefer to only re-watch FoTR is it's my personal favorite).
- AManWithNoName, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1My favorite part about the three LoTR movies has to be the fact that they flow so perfectly. That's no small achievement for a movie series. Even Star Wars had to resort to a "What you missed" summary before each film to tie them together, and let's face it, if you watched the original Indie films back to back, the difference from one film to the next is distinct. LoTR, however, can be watched from the opening credits of Fellowship to the ending credits of King in one sitting, and the DVD menus would be the only clue you'd have that you'd changed movies.
That said, Sam was totally gay for Frodo, both in book and movie.

- RSS14, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1That is so ignorant. What? Are you too cool to clap or something?
I've seen clapping at TDK and Casino Royale, plus some more I can't remember. - whahaa, on 11/04/2008, -0/+0i'm sure the kid in the projection booth really appreciated it.

6. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
5. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
4. The Bourne Ultimatum
3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
2. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
1. Goldfinger- yohnstoppable, on 11/04/2008, -1/+2bourne ultimatum was the holy grail of shaky cam. Micheal Jay Fox must have filmed it in the middle of an earth quake, while really having to take a piss.
- kocurejd, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1I'm not sure Harry Potter and Bond really qualify as "thirds." I mean, yes, they were the 3rd of the series, but it's kind of not the same.

- spaceman84, on 11/04/2008, -10/+6Return of the Jedi was definitely the weakest of the trilogy. Ewoks and ANOTHER Death Star? Talk about bankrupt for ideas.
And Return of the King was also the weakest of the LotR trilogy. Peter Jackson did a pretty ***** job on the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, which was only one of the most important parts of the whole trilogy. He completely left out The Great Darkness, and the Dead Men of Dunharrow were about as far from the book as you could possibly get. That was some Ghostbusters-esque ***** he pulled there. I'm glad he isn't directing the Halo movie.- Bra1nStew, on 11/04/2008, -1/+1Exactly.

- hat2021, on 11/04/2008, -3/+3How hard can it be to copy Dark Knight Returns word for word.
...WORD FOR WORD. Do NOT add a love story (see: batman year one v. Begins) Just take the book; show the actors the pictures and say: do that. You can replace some of the neon but that's as far as i'll let you go.
There you go, I've just written a great third batman movie. You can thank me later Mr. Nolan.- B3000, on 11/04/2008, -4/+1Nolan's Batman universe never had a Robin in it, so you would have to change things. Is this from The Onion?- AManWithNoName, on 11/04/2008, -0/+2If ever there was a director who cared about the quality of his films, Nolan was it.
- hasahugedig, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1Lethal Weapon 3 was pretty awesome. 4 sucked ass though.
- reidmangel, on 11/04/2008, -0/+2I have to agree that Goldfinger is a great "Third Movie".
Best Bond movie ever created in my opinion. - Cainsable, on 11/04/2008, -1/+1Hello, what about Superman III? Pure Filmmaking Genius.
- SanTe, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1Unless you're being sarcastic, I'll back you up because I think Superman III gets dissed way more than it deserves. I actually liked Richard Pryor in it, the Smallville scenes were wonderful, and Superman fighting himself was great fun. I can even watch Superman IV even though the script mostly sucked and the villain was beyond ridiculous, just because Christopher Reeve's performance is so enjoyable to watch. However, the article is about great 'third' movies and, let's face it, both Superman I and II were awesome in several ways that III was not.
- emazur, on 11/04/2008, -2/+1The third movie usually strikes out as in Alien 3, but that one did a complete 180 and we had the awesome Alien 4 (Aliens was also awesome, I'd have to watch them consecutively to see which one I like better). That's the only movie I can think of that strongly rebounded after a bad third showing- anyone know another? Maybe Star Trek 4 but I haven't watched the classic Trek movies in a really long time
- Kanten, on 11/04/2008, -1/+4Alien 3 was miles above Resurrection.
- jcroweall7, on 11/04/2008, -0/+2At least they didn't plan a third movie from the start, like they did with the Pirates of the Caribbean, Matrix and Star Wars Prequel Trilogy movies. Those suffered from needing to fill out 2 movies with the plot of 1 movie. I have faith in Christopher Nolan, if he should decide to do another Batman.
