- DiggieHowser, on 11/24/2008, -1/+45If this stops even one spammer, I'll be judge Fogel's biggest fan.
- ModernChem, on 11/25/2008, -0/+6It just did.
- Akumajin, on 11/25/2008, -0/+1Agreed. The only bad part is that this took so long...these spammers have been there for a loooong time.
- ThadeousMan, on 11/24/2008, -1/+23Hooray! Facebook is saved!
- noghead, on 11/25/2008, -0/+9screw that!!
I want (some of) that money....arent we the ones who have to see the spam? We should get that $$$- skittlebomb101, on 11/25/2008, -0/+1Why should you get the money? I mean the site is free to use. The people who actually pay for it should get the money.
Snuff said.

- subliminali, on 11/25/2008, -0/+106wait, you mean to tell me that this guy has awesome ringtones, super potent legal weed, and dick enlargement pills and we're suing him? This man is clearly a miracle worker, not a spammer.
Where do I send my credit card information?- tykwondingo, on 11/25/2008, -0/+54just send me a shout and we'll get in touch, my friend in Nigeria has his contact info for you and quite the proposal as well...

It's ***** annoying. - peteinakl, on 11/25/2008, -0/+76If they collect the $873m, it should be split between the FB members who had to put up with this...
- Krakerjax, on 11/25/2008, -0/+12But that only turns out to be like, $87.30 per person.
- evilesttoast, on 11/25/2008, -0/+49@Krakerjax
Yeah...I'll take that - Jeepinator, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2That's good for a quarter here.
- zeabu, on 11/25/2008, -0/+3That's good enough to buy some beer, kill some braincells and in that way make me forget the whole deal.
- uberduger, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2I came to these comments to say exactly that. As far as I saw, they did nothing to stop the spam that I kept recieving from one or two stupid friends who obviously installed the wrong app. So that means that it cost them nothing but they get $873mil?! Whereas a whole host of users had to put up with wallposts and messages advertising viagra and stuff?
Can the judge who awarded it please explain that to me, because it seems a little one sided... - gbhall, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2Or, they can actually pay twitter 500m in cash!
- dmcbride6, on 11/25/2008, -0/+1Yes, because people pay to use FB. It is all making such sense now!
- CynicSight, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2Yea, that's not bad money. I could probably buy a few ringtones, maybe a little weed, and some penis enlargement pills.
- enginbeeringSB, on 11/25/2008, -0/+18So that's how they're going to become profitable...
- RScan70, on 11/25/2008, -0/+5Good cuz that ***** was annoying. Maybe it will finally stop
- XenoSNK, on 11/25/2008, -0/+28So much for Twitter doubting they even had $500 mil...

For example, the link posted above is flashing to me, so I know instantly its a rick roll :)
enjoy :)

- Enchorito, on 11/25/2008, -0/+1Do you pay for Facebook? No? Stop whining.
- ryndemers, on 11/25/2008, -5/+2they should put this money to good use... get rid of ads
facebook will probably go down soon anyway because people will get bored of it and move on- metaliq, on 11/25/2008, -2/+2I see absolutely no reason for this to be true.
Facebook isn't a form of entertainment that dies... It's largely used as a communications device. Unless something more widespread and efficient comes along, Facebook will be one of the most effective networking tools out there.
And investing in a way to get rid of revenue is kind of a silly business decision. - h3110, on 11/25/2008, -0/+1Ads are an important part of their business. Without it, they can only rely on the sales of facebook gifts which won't earn them much.
Like many popular blogs and other websites, there are ads. Ads help support companies and keep them running for free so that you don't have to pay subscription fees. Ads on websites is actually more of an ethical form of revenue than selling products or subscriptions because it allows all people to access the content and not just the people who can afford to pay for a subscription.
There are some websites that also let you pay subscription to view the website without ads. Sometimes they have additional goodies for subscribers.
- metaliq, on 11/25/2008, -2/+2I see absolutely no reason for this to be true.
- jturbo, on 11/25/2008, -3/+4873 Million? hahaha.... Where is that money going to come from.... I always find it funny when a Judge awards such ridiculous amounts in law suits. The law firm representing Facebook in the suit get a HUGE percentage of the settlement...and I wouldn't be surprised if the judge gets kickbacks in non-monetary ways.
- BlackDaniel, on 11/25/2008, -1/+4
- Pedobear, on 11/25/2008, -0/+1That's quite a kickback. I've heard that Mark Zuckerberg gives world-class blowjobs.
- FENWAYFREAK, on 11/25/2008, -1/+5No, free facebook account.
- jturbo, on 11/25/2008, -1/+2Blowjobs?...certainly. But I was talking about Yachts getting lent to him indefinitely, exotic trips, etc... Anything other than money, so there would be no paper compensation. Unless he's into nudie mags.
@FENWAYFREAK:
I really hope you don't pay for facebook....
- BlackDaniel, on 11/25/2008, -1/+4
- metaliq, on 11/25/2008, -1/+9I have never had spam on facebook.
But cool.- zeabu, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2add some 14yrs old "friends".
- drmobutu, on 11/25/2008, -0/+5They'll make another offer for twitter, just as soon as the check clears...
- WakeRider, on 11/25/2008, -1/+2Just wondering, what is the point of these multi-million dollar lawsuits? Yes I know they are designed to punish people who did wrong, compensate the victims etc etc but there is actually no point unless the guilty party can pay up. Does the spammer actually have $873 million? If not, what do the courts do when they know the defendant has a snowball's chance in hell of ever being able to pay? Yes the wrongdoers can be punished financially, but $873 million? They'll NEVER get that.
- LawMan227, on 11/25/2008, -0/+4I'll give you a crash course here... judgments in America are good for 20 years, you can make a motion to renew a judgment for another 20 years. Hence the $873 million follows this guy for the next 40 years, plus interest. That means any bank accounts, assets, or wages can seized or garnished over the next 40 years. Here is the rub... this guy lives in Canada. If he is smart, he is doing everything he can to transfer any assets he has in America to Canada, if there are any. If everything is already in Canada, Facebook just won $873 million in nothing... An interesting side note, if this guy does not answer a request for information regarding the personal assets and holdings, Facebook can move to find them in contempt of court, and then move for an arrest warrant. So if this guy ever came to America, he could be arrested... 2 notes on that, arrest warrants expire, and he would be released once he disclosed all his assets... which would probably be in Canada and unreachable anyway.
- InsaneOni, on 11/25/2008, -1/+1Doesn't this guy / company need to file bankruptcy and they'll be in the clear?
- jon31rm, on 11/25/2008, -0/+4or ask Congress for a bail-out. I'm sure they'd be willing to help.
- sogr, on 11/25/2008, -0/+7So they can afford to buy Twitter in cash now?
- fitzfan, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2If this guy were to actually pay...
- slonrgjon, on 11/25/2008, -1/+4spam is what caused me to switch to facebook from myspace
- warmuffin, on 11/25/2008, -2/+1opps! rant alert!
First, ridiculous emails (sorry everyone who had to get one! i never suffered, and it sux many of you had to and I had noooo idea!) that no one would believe. I mean, what person read "they can't detect it in drug tests" and thought, wow, I trust this, it sounds totally believable! I say this not because I'm accusing any of you for falling prey, but who was this stupid Adam guy who thought people would fall for it? *admittedly I only know the examples that were provided in the article* So I ask, why do does someone have to be so freakin' annoying (bc I bet that spam was REALLY annoying) for no good reason! Really, I get that phising and such must work 1 out of 1000 to be useful since you can do so many so easily, but really, who is that 1 and on what planet did the spamer think a person would actually exist that 'uninformed' and would become that 1?
oh, later thought - i suppose it might have damaged a few friendships for a while, or just not reading and believing a friend sent it could make you that 1 person. i hate spam and phising. who doesn't? (oh, spamers!) - bayerman38, on 11/25/2008, -2/+1great, now they can offer Twitter an additional $373 Million next to the $500 Million
- Ryosen, on 11/25/2008, -1/+1Yeah, good luck collecting that.
