- dicketj8050, on 11/18/2008, -5/+54meh, there are some pretty ugly blown-out spots if you look not even that close in the highlights, C-
- swiftekho, on 11/19/2008, -9/+3Parts of the building are 650+ years old. You live to be 650 years old and I'm willing to bet you'll have more than some ugly blown out spots.
Impressive work. Architecture has always amazed me. Also looking at a smaller version of the picture lends it really well to the HDR. The full scale shows the detail but 1024 x 683 resolution made it look like a video game.- Crystallio, on 11/19/2008, -0/+16I think he meant that the photographer didn't fully capture the highlights of the scene, so there are some areas with no detail despite this being an HDR photo.
- texpundit, on 11/19/2008, -1/+4Actually, I looked at the linked version and it looked just like a video game render...and I'm running 1600x1200 rez.
- superkendall, on 11/19/2008, -1/+5The photography is poor, or teh HDR processing is really bad - I'd guess it's more the HDR software at fault, with some pretty nasty artifacts.
The end result is interesting though, being much more artistic than realistic... it could be that was the intent. - 2of8, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1By 'artistic' you mean technically problematic?
- swiftekho, on 11/19/2008, -9/+3Parts of the building are 650+ years old. You live to be 650 years old and I'm willing to bet you'll have more than some ugly blown out spots.
- MyTakes, on 11/18/2008, -10/+82Doesn't look that great.
- flammablewater, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1are you serious? it would have looked better as a regular photo. Bad at Photoshop FTL.
- ryusen, on 11/27/2008, -0/+0I would agree. Too many people (IMHO) oversaturate HDR photos to try and create a more surreal image. It doesn't always work. I think part of the problem on the photography side might have been his hiding the tripod. either the alignment of the pics are off or there's motion blur. i can't quite tell.
- WafflesID, on 11/19/2008, -4/+105 realize that HDR is the latest rage and all that, but jesus christ, let's put down the HDR button if it is going to ruin the picture.
- ophello, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1No *****. HDR should be done with subtlety. The point is to make it look closer to what you saw at the scene.
- bman85, on 11/19/2008, -2/+1He warned everybody in all caps in the title that it was an HDR photo, if you planned on dissing it anyway, why other even click on the link.
- flammablewater, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Because if an HDR photo makes it to the front page we expect it to not be blown out and fuzzy.
- WafflesID, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Because SOME HDR pics are breathtaking.
But it is getting to the point where people will throw a picture through the HDR wringer for no reason, and it ruins a picture.
- castevens, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5I guess it's time for me to spam my picture -- but I took this shot using the HDR technique and tried to process it as little as possible so as not to make it too unrealistic, and make it look more like what I saw at the scene, as ophello says. The clouds were intimidating that day:

BEAUTIFUL example.
THAT is why you do HDR processing. - bman85, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Thats a nice pic dude, looks really cool.
- WafflesID, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3SEE!!
- ryusen, on 11/27/2008, -0/+0Agreed... since i'm not the first, i'm, i don't feel bad about spamming my few examples.
http://ryusen.smugmug.com/Nature/609698
I think the issue is more people over saturate HDR. I usually find i need to tone down the curves and saturation to get a more realistic look.

- Tyrant505, on 11/19/2008, -3/+7why are churches always so scary..
- Suricou, on 11/19/2008, -0/+5Medieval churches were made to intimidate - built huge and lavish, to testify to both the glory of God and the immense earthly power and wealth of the churches. Modern churches arn't built with quite the same goals in mind, though some of the American megachurches manage to achieve it through sheer scale.

- paloooz, on 11/19/2008, -3/+2Buried for HDR.
- nullcodes, on 11/19/2008, -2/+13THIS IS NOT REAL HDR. THIS IS NOT TRUE HDR. True HDR photography doesn't have this look. You can't tell a true HDR photo from regular photos .. other than the fact that there is a bit more detail and no overexposed or underexposed areas.
Real HDR is not this crap .. this is color enhancement not High Dynamic range photography. Actually this should be called LOW Dynamic Range .. not high.
This crap should be called pastelization (and I dont care if the term is taken). - RRR3, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1I second the video game confusion. Thought it was a screen from Gears 2 or Left 4 Dead.
- centran, on 11/19/2008, -2/+2Normally I would bitch about how HDR doesn't mean you need to tone-map the hell out of your photos to some freaky surreal high saturated crappy looking photo. However, this one does a decent job.
It was a good location choice for this type of picture.. There are some small things that could be fixed up but overall this is a good job. - TaylorHelferty, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2HDR is beautiful - if done right - but it's no God of photography. This picture at it's original size looks god-awful. Looks alright at Large or medium size though. Still HDR is getting overrated. Not EVERY shot needs to be HDR. Some look better as HDR, some don't. I think this could do without. Still, at a smaller size when you can't see all the blown-out blots, it looks nice.
- ran24, on 11/19/2008, -1/+2Concept art for Deus Ex 3?

- mrseemoo, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3It's pictures like this that give HDR a bad name. There is nothing wrong with the HDR technique as long as people know how to use it!
- cultur3b0mb, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2I agree! Here's an HDR I did over a year ago:

- cultur3b0mb, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2I agree! Here's an HDR I did over a year ago:
- SexyFarts, on 11/19/2008, -1/+2that looks like it was taken straight out of a video game
- bjornski, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1I was hoping it was. I want to play it.
- fotodevil, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3Sorry, but this is terrible. Horribly splotchy looking, and the chromatic aberration is an eye sore. And to top it off, the focus is soft (and it looks like a poor use of Unsharp Mask to cover it up)
- nublet, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2looks like a scene from gears2.
- djsputnik, on 11/19/2008, -1/+10buried for blown out, over saturated, and general suckage.
- FredFredrickson, on 11/19/2008, -1/+2I like the look of HDR photos a lot, but some care has to go into their creation - there are awful bits of contrast in there where the color information apparently got nuked in the process.
