- FurtThePirate, on 11/19/2008, -15/+34I'm defiantly buying this once I get paid.
- Miche1987, on 11/19/2008, -4/+71No, you'd be defiant if you pirated this game.
- BoonTobias, on 11/19/2008, -12/+6i will definitely be defiant then
- evilesttoast, on 11/19/2008, -1/+83I love pirating, but Valve is a company I couldn't bring myself to take from.
- IHaveCrayons, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3How would you play online without a cd-key?
- icu_, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Valve is showing the love for online PC gaming. If we want them to continue providing us games such as TF2 and L4D it's our duty to support them with green paper votes.
I wasn't 100% behind this game based off the demo, but decided to get it "because it's Valve" (fanboy) and I'm very glad I did. It is quite fun. - Tacorian, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1I've pirated almost every game I could get my hands on, except Valve games. Without hesitation, I will spend the money for their games because they are simply worth the price and using Steam isn't so bad.

- themastersb, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2I planned ahead of time (approx 2 months ago) to get this game so I made sure I'd have enough money when it came out.
- passedoutghost, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2I'm definitely buying this game once the exchange rates become reasonable : (

- coldkill3r, on 11/19/2008, -6/+9Damn, this game sounds awesome! Too bad I don't have enough cash right now though...
- bbagi, on 11/19/2008, -2/+3Maybe if you spent less time playing video games and more time working... although chicks do seem to dig broke video game addicts. You can't win!

- IglooBurner, on 11/19/2008, -1/+7I played this game from 7:30 pm to 2 in the morning w/o break.
Not only am I late to work this morning, I felt like crap all day. I have no one to blame but this awesome video game.
And that damn Tank. - antdude, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1For me, time. :)
- Nephersir7, on 11/19/2008, -5/+114The greatest thing about it is that it is included in Valve's $99 megapack that includes:

- SeePage87, on 11/19/2008, -0/+11Thanks a lot dude. I was going to go for the 4 for $150 with some buddies, but this is too much to pass up.
- henismightier, on 11/19/2008, -4/+14Cool a bunch of stuff most of us already have + Left 4 Dead. What a deal!
- Modiga, on 11/19/2008, -0/+16Speaking of VALVe's other games. It's Half-Life's 10th anniversary today and VALVe are selling the original Half-Life for $0.98. If you haven't got it already, you should definitely buy it now!

- Tacorian, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1oh damn, can't beat that.
- kcen, on 11/19/2008, -3/+54Purchased... This game is awesome. I would definitely recommend it to others. This is by far the best co-op campaign that I have played.
- krets, on 11/19/2008, -4/+22Would you defiantly recommend it?
- bbagi, on 11/19/2008, -2/+5defiantly?
- Stemnin, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1@bbagi: See first comment.
- Jeepinator, on 11/19/2008, -1/+7This is one of the best games I have ever played. It is done ridiculously well. I have played every major multiplayer shooter since Quake III and this is probably at the top. It's just so insanely entertaining. It never gets old to be the only one standing fighting to get to your teammates who are laying wounded on the ground, or being the Boomer and getting that perfect vomit/explosion on the entire group of survivors. It is epic.
- spydersvenom, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1I agree. I have this game and played the hell out of it last night. In fact, I can't stop telling people about it at work today. This game is twice as good if you have 2-3 friends to burn through with it as right now the scattered single players seem to be lone wolves which really doesn't work for this game. In fact, if those people leave, their bot replacement is usually a better player.
- IglooBurner, on 11/19/2008, -7/+1Is it me? or does the black guy (Louis) sound just like Samuel L Jackson?
- zerhynn, on 11/19/2008, -0/+12No, he doesn't at all. His voice is higher pitched and not as badass.
- DforSpiD, on 11/19/2008, -0/+7Is Louis a mushroom cloud laying *****, *****?

- lolupissed, on 11/19/2008, -1/+17Played last night, the endings of each campaign are epic (Blood Harvest you have to stay alive for 10 ***** minutes, with low amounts of health packs as tanks, hunters, and like 1000s of zombies swarm this little farmhouse your stuck in). Its ridiculously fun.
- Tbyrd073, on 11/19/2008, -1/+14On Blood Harvest we stayed alive last night by cowering with our automatic weapons in the closets and blasting ***** as it came into the room. Two crouched in front and two standing behind with a constant stream of metal going through the door. 2 of us survived. The rescue arrived as me and another guy went downstairs to grab more ammo the other two got trapped by the end swarm. We lost so many good people. /cry
OK Time to kick more ass when I get done with work. On another side note I thought the most pain in the ass one is the Airport level and staying alive while guarding the plane on Expert as you're being swarmed.- sexybobo, on 11/19/2008, -0/+6Clime on the plain behind the gas truck and all 4 spray down. Got 2 of our team to survive that way the second time. (first time all but 1 died then he got hit by a hunter about 2 feet from him being in the plane.
- sofaKing812, on 11/19/2008, -0/+7We lost a team mate on the way to the rescue last night so I tried to save them and died, then someone tried to revive me and died, and the last dude said "***** you fools" and jumped in the rescue. True story.
- raisedinhell, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Haha, maybe I was one of the other 3 playing with you last night.. cus we did the same thing :)
- dogearedboy, on 11/19/2008, -1/+11Sounds like the game I've been waiting for my whole life. Damn.
- Fetttson, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1I've holed out twice on the top floor of the barn. There's only two ways in, both of which involve zombies climbing up objects. This makes it fairly easy to pick them off before they get into attack range. Plus, there's an ammo pile right there on your floor, as well as a spot where items might spawn.
- bonk2k, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1The farmhouse is OK but the barn right outside is much better. Get up in the loft and have 2 people watch the ladder and 2 more watch the hole in the wall and the window. When the truck shows up, just jump down and its right there.

- dha07030, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1Just looking for people to play the game with. WTF?
- EvilFerret, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1So go play the game already? I'm sure it won't last forever, but right now the L4D is very mature and helpful. Whats even more amazing is I have yet to encounter the screechy voice of a kid. Perhaps I've just been extremely lucky with good groups.
- Tbyrd073, on 11/19/2008, -1/+9Played all four campaigns last night one time through on Advanced. It's a bitch at parts and if you are all dead the next playthrough is completely different so you never know what the hell is coming at you. I agree with Arstechnica though the Director is a dick. Sorry bud, no offense but you do not deserve to play this game if you steal it. It is totally worth 50 bucks. Give respect. - rodon, on 11/19/2008, -0/+24If you like it so much, give Valve their due.
- Jeepinator, on 11/19/2008, -0/+8I always buy games from smaller developers. The only game I have ever actually downloaded was Rainbow Six Vegas, because it looked too sketchy to buy, and I ended up right, it sucked. Therefore, no money wasted. This game has a demo and is worth every penny, just like the Orange Box.
- j3ff86, on 11/19/2008, -0/+15If you like it, buy it, so Valve can make more great games in the future.
- fakeplasticsnow, on 11/19/2008, -2/+10I'm all for piracy if it doesn't involve Valve. So ***** you!
- iruel, on 11/20/2008, -1/+5I don't care what kind of "justification" you have for pirating. Pirating from Valve makes you scum.
Amazing well made games, reasonable/awesome prices, steam, long term content support and patching. it just doesn't get any better than that. - AngelBunny, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1@irue the justification is i am paying for it.
it is funny how downloading tv shows, movies, music, ... is ok, but downloading games isn't? look in the mirror hypocrites.- MyNameIsGusto, on 11/20/2008, -2/+2Downloading TV shows is ok because TV is FREE.

- Spire3660, on 11/19/2008, -1/+5Get the L4D 4 pack. Its $150 for 4 licenses, and you can gift them over steam to your buddies.
- dalittle, on 11/19/2008, -10/+11Auto targeting on consoles is just plain stupid. Upgrade to a PC asap.
- Dauntless1, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1Have a PC, just don't do any gaming on it really. Maybe when the some new sci-fi MMO's come out.
- Goldbricker, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2Not everyone likes gaming on their PCs. I sit in front of a computer all day at work. The last thing I want to do is sit in front of one at night or on the weekends.
- dalittle, on 11/20/2008, -3/+2last thing I want to do is have a game play itself for me. Do your self a favor and then just watch a movie instead.
- Tbyrd073, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2dalittle learn not to suck on consoles or just let us 360 owners enjoy valve's new game our own way. Also I haven't noticed any auto-targetting on the 360 version.
- dalittle, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1Tbyrd073 - How hard is it to let the game auto target everything, it is too easy to bother. And if you don't realize that it is auto targeting, you really need to upgrade to a PC. It is a much better experience.
- Tbyrd073, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2Nope pretty sure there is no auto targeting. And I do play PC games I just like FPS games on my Xbox. Believe it or not some people do enjoy the 360.
- Namingway, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2I have both pc & 360. I struggled with what would be the best way to go. I like xbox live. I like my TV. I like my couch.
In the end I remembered that I love keyboard/mouse. Not to mention, the 360 version is more expensive & requires a trip to gamestop or something. I really hate giving anything to gamestop.
- cptmichael101st, on 11/19/2008, -4/+35it's better on pc. i promise.
- Dauntless1, on 11/19/2008, -15/+4Yeah. I hear that for all games. It's really funny when I'm told games that are console exclusives are better on PC.
- BackEnThaWomb, on 11/20/2008, -5/+5I hate this argument, I prefer playing on my 360..
- bonk2k, on 11/20/2008, -1/+6This game transcends the PC/Console argument. It kicks ass wherever.
- Tbyrd073, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2So true bonk.
- kickasspodcast, on 12/01/2008, -0/+1because your face is so much closer to the screen and the room around you can be much darker (on a PC)
- Dauntless1, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2Me and three other guys I work with are picking it up friday. We've been playing the heck out of the demo, I think we're going to spend several fun nights on this.
- Chahrlie5, on 11/19/2008, -0/+27Been playing it since the demo, can't stop playing.
THe team work, the atmosphere, everything, it's just so well thought out. It's like playing through a zombie movie.- Wartz, on 11/19/2008, -0/+7a GOOD zombie movie.
- AmnesiacJack, on 11/19/2008, -0/+40Might be the best co-op game I've ever played. Me and some friends started playing it around 8pm last night and didn't stop till we beat the first movie at 4am. Most of us had school or work in the morning but once you start playing with a good group of friends it becomes hard to put the game down, haven't had so much fun or laughed so hard since the GoldenEye days on the N64.
I suggest any one who likes FPS go out and get this game, get your friends to get it. You won't be disappointed.
PS If you do get it you have to play it on Expert. Any other difficulty is a joke and won't give you the sense of doom that you need to really enjoy this game.- Jeepinator, on 11/19/2008, -0/+20Advanced still delivers. Expert can just be ridiculous. I can't beat the finale on No Mercy. I haven't tried the others. Oh by the way, semi auto shotgun is the best weapon in the game easily.
- lordtyros, on 11/19/2008, -2/+10Semi auto shotgun is for console gamers. Rifle is godly.
- Jeepinator, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2With the semi auto you can load and hit at the same time and take out an entire horde group with 9 shells. you fire 9 and reload then start hitting then 9 again or whatever is needed. you can do this without getting touched until you run out of ammo btw. The rifle doesnt ahve enough spread though it is an excellent weapon.
- SirBryce, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1The Semi-auto shotty is the best weapon against tanks and you can 1-hit witches, best hands down.
- Tbyrd073, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3I like the hunting rifle personally. I let people with shottys go in front so I can snipe things that swarm them.
- joegibes, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3Advanced is fun when you want to get through a new map, or you're playing with new people (or people you don't know), or you have a bad connection. Expert is wicked hard... Except with bots. Then, you can pretty much just be methodical, and let bots take the fall.
- tehjames, on 11/19/2008, -1/+4I don't think playing on expert is a necessity. It certainly does make the game more difficult and chaotic, but some people like to feel like theres a zombie apocalypse without getting their asses kicked. It's all really up to personal preference, hence the 4 different choices.
- sportbikepilot, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2be sure to turn off the music so you have no idea what's coming...
- Jeepinator, on 11/19/2008, -0/+20Advanced still delivers. Expert can just be ridiculous. I can't beat the finale on No Mercy. I haven't tried the others. Oh by the way, semi auto shotgun is the best weapon in the game easily.

- azreal156, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3Anyone else have a problem with their connection to the game? I have wireless-N. It happens for all my Steam games, I don't even play online anymore...
- Dauntless1, on 11/19/2008, -0/+5I work in IT, and we've been having complaints about wireless-N. It seems to be inexplicably unstable in like 5% of cases. Do you have a wireless-G that you can try? Another thing to consider is your service provider. Are you currently with someone who puts bandwidth caps on you after a few gigs?
- Jeepinator, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1I occasionally get disconnected from my college's WiFi while playing this game. It doesn't normally happen outside the game or with other multi-player games.
- sexybobo, on 11/19/2008, -1/+5Don't play on wireless. Just adds to the latency normally.
- KreegsMcSteves, on 11/19/2008, -17/+6"Sure, you can get Left 4 Dead on the 360, and I'm sure many people will enjoy it, but the best way to play this game is with a mouse and a keyboard, headphones on, screaming at your team mates that you're surrounded and need back up."
You can do all of that on the 360, minus the keyboard and mouse part. But instead of those, you get a control... which in my opinion, is much better.- starslinger72, on 11/19/2008, -3/+20sadly a controller will ironically never give you the control that a mouse and keyboard will in any shooter.
- Dauntless1, on 11/19/2008, -9/+2Yeah. Too bad the PC gaming market is in the toilet, the power of some of these new computers is huge.
- freezerburn666, on 11/19/2008, -1/+7you'll never convince these kind of people, i've tried to get my friend to play COD4 with the mouse and keyboard. "i don't do that, it's too hard, i will only play if you hook up a controller"
- Dauntless1, on 11/19/2008, -6/+4@freezerburn666
Nice, "these kinds of people". What, we're like our own subspecies? Jeez, biased much? - sexybobo, on 11/19/2008, -0/+6That is because every game that uses a controller aims for you.
Also in L4D you can use the 360 controller on the pc version and play split screen with 2 players.
Plus free content from valve and lots of user created maps. - plhearn, on 11/19/2008, -2/+4I'm getting it for 360. I agree that FPS's are better with a keyboard and mouse. But my friends don't have decked out computers and playing it on my 22 in flatscreen monitor isn't as fun as playing it on my 51 in HD TV.
- Snoosy, on 11/19/2008, -3/+16Anyone who takes a controller over a keyboard + mouse for a FPS does not know how to properly use a keyboard and mouse.
- HypocriteDigg, on 11/19/2008, -8/+4Does it really feel like you are shooting a gun with a keyboard and mouse dumbass? I'll take a controller with rumble and trigger button anyday. I play for FUN, and sitting on the couch with a wireless controller beats the hell out of sitting in front of a PC. If you can't do just as well with a controller, then you either suck or you haven't tried it for very long.
- Snoosy, on 11/19/2008, -2/+4If using a controller makes you feel like you're actually using a gun, I'd say you're the dumbass.
The best player with a controller will never be as good as the best player with a mouse and keyboard. It's just the mechanics of the devices, you can target with a mouse way faster than a controller. And no, I don't suck with a controller. - Rockkybox, on 11/19/2008, -3/+1Of course the mouse offers much better control than joysticks, but I just cant seem to get the keyboard down, wasd is fine, however call me stupid but crouching and jumping just feel slightly wrong, and thats without mentioning all the little leaning controls or holding shift to walk and that, I also hate the lack of analogue control over keyboard movement
- surfacewound, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3@ HypocriteDigg:
If you are just as good with a mouse and keyboard as you are with a game controller, it only means that you completely suck ass with a mouse and keyboard. A game controller is tremendously inferior to the precision you can get from a mouse.
That is quantifiable fact, not opinion; whether or not someone can utilize the superior precision available from a mouse simply depends upon the skill of the person using it.
- dalittle, on 11/19/2008, -5/+8Auto targeting on consoles is just plain stupid. Upgrade to a PC asap.
- AnError, on 11/19/2008, -0/+5True, but you will most likely have to pay for Download-able Content and will never touch community made maps.
- Dauntless1, on 11/19/2008, -5/+5I'm paying for the convenience of not having to worry whether my system can run every new game coming out for it. As for paying for content, you're right. I will have to pay for something I didn't create so that someone else will get a paycheck for doing his job. I pay for my entertainment.
Edit: Community made maps. You mean the privilege of running around a map shaped like a penis chasing zombies who happen to be hot cheerleaders that just happen to be naked, or the one in every 10,000 maps and mods that happen to be any good?

Or doesn't do his gaming on a computer. - Jeepinator, on 11/19/2008, -1/+5If you put a clone of me with a controller playing against me with KB/Mouse, me with the KB/Mouse will murk my clone every time. There is no comparison.
- joegibes, on 11/19/2008, -0/+5I own the game for PC and played the demo quite a bit on 360 and I have to say I'm quite a bit better on PC... It's a whole lot easier to snap off headshots like nothing.
- Dauntless1, on 11/19/2008, -3/+2Yeah, point and click gaming takes skill. I don't know why anyone says different.
- joegibes, on 11/25/2008, -0/+1I'd like the control interface to not get in the way of my strategy and fun, thanks.
- HypocriteDigg, on 11/19/2008, -3/+4I agree. The 'nothing beats a PC/Mouse' guys are just ignorant.
- BackEnThaWomb, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1I wouldn't say ignorant. More like elitists. Much like the Apple is better than Microsoft and that Linux is better than Jesus people.
- Kazakaz, on 11/19/2008, -1/+2I got out of the PC gaming years ago. Didn't want to have to keep upgrading to play the newest games. Plus all of my friends are console gamers.
- kickasspodcast, on 12/01/2008, -0/+1Why does there have to be a war? PC gamers are always more hardcore, spending more on their GPUs than a new XBOX, I get it, but why does their have to be a fight?
- starslinger72, on 11/19/2008, -3/+20sadly a controller will ironically never give you the control that a mouse and keyboard will in any shooter.
- thomashallock, on 11/19/2008, -1/+38Four people died after reading a review on Ars? oh.... it's a game title.
- Laiden, on 11/19/2008, -0/+8***** you, 2 of my friends died reading an Ars review.
- SuperVepr308, on 11/19/2008, -0/+14Played it all last night. If you like zombie flicks or survival games you owe it to yourself to pick this one up. Valve continues to rock.
- ch4os1337, on 11/19/2008, -1/+2It was made by Turtle Rock Studios and this was there first hit, there other games sucked... like Counter Strike for Xbox and Counter Strike: Condition Zero & Deleted Scenes.
- lacronicus, on 11/19/2008, -0/+3TR actually made the CS mod, and were picked up by valve to make source.
- BugMeNot2, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4Both Valve and Turtle Rock worked on Left 4 Dead, but Turtle Rock came up with the idea for the game. People from Valve such as Robin Walker of Team Fortress fame worked on L4D.

- bigpun, on 11/19/2008, -1/+5I thought the Eurogamer review was much better. Genuinely a great read that gives you a true sense of what the game is all about and brilliantly written

- Spyder228, on 11/19/2008, -2/+4When will they update the ancient weapon textures?
Great game though.- Dauntless1, on 11/19/2008, -1/+19It's valve. They traditionally focus more on gameplay than graphics. Goes to show you don't have to have state of the art graphics to make an awesome game.
- Spyder228, on 11/19/2008, -2/+6See but everything else in the game looks great, but the weapons look terrible.
- BugMeNot2, on 11/19/2008, -0/+3The only weapon model that looks sorta off is the M16. Everything else looks great, especially the molotov.

- j3ff86, on 11/19/2008, -0/+12But you Linux users seem to insist that Steam works just fine in Linux. Which is it?
see: http://digg.com/microsoft/Is_holding_out_for_Windo ... - Jeepinator, on 11/19/2008, -0/+5Sorry they didn't want to make 2 or three different versions of the game and try to smoothly integrate all three in multi-player.

- plaguepony, on 11/19/2008, -0/+19I was having so much fun defending the House at the end of Blood Harvest. Its all about the childrens' room, with auto shotgun at the window, and M16s at the door. Then I realized that it was 2 AM, I had work in 6 hours, and still had not eaten dinner.
- joegibes, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4Ha, last night I didn't eat and was up til midnight playing. Then I HAD to watch an episode of Top Gear... And get up at 6.
- sexybobo, on 11/19/2008, -0/+3same experience for me release night except it was 3 and i had to be at work at 6. I was tired as hell all day at work but it was well worth it.
- d3sp, on 11/19/2008, -0/+6Played this two nights in a row now and can't get enough!! Co-op survival games (voice chat is built in too) are just waaaay more fun than any other FPS offerings right now.
- bundwallah, on 11/19/2008, -0/+9How does multiplayer work? Do you have to logon to steam or can I host a game for my friends to connect to??
- ch4os1337, on 11/19/2008, -0/+13You have to play it on steam, and you can host a game from within L4D. You don't need to make a dedicated server.
- bundwallah, on 11/19/2008, -0/+6Thanks!

Sticking with Fallout 3...- joegibes, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4It can be played with no friends: there's both matchmaking and single player. Also, who doesn't have headphones?! You can get a pair for like A DOLLAR.
- sexybobo, on 11/19/2008, -1/+4You can play with random people on the net it doesn't have to be your friends and most of them have been really nice. Have yet to have some one leave the campaign before it is over and we have been waiting in safe rooms while teammates go to the restroom and get drinks.
- Wartz, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2"Lt Austin"
some guy up there was looking for friends to play with. You'd have to work pretty hard to NOT have some sort of friends on the internet.
- LogicBomB, on 11/19/2008, -7/+2I played the demo and hated this game. I'm going to rent the game and give it another chance - too many people keep talking about how awesome it is so I must have really missed some gem in here the first time through...
- Spire3660, on 11/19/2008, -1/+5If you didnt 'get it' the first time you blew a hole in a zombie, then you arent going to get it at all. Play with some friends, PUT ON HEADPHONES (or a nice 5.1 setup), and turn out the lights. You MIGHT get it then.
- LogicBomB, on 11/20/2008, -2/+1You don't have to be condescending about it. The demo I played didn't feel like a modern shooter at all. It felt like a step back in gameplay. Zombies ran at you and you fired at them and they dropped dead. It didn't feel immersive at all - just a random zombie killing game.
Dead Rising was an *AMAZING* zombie game. This felt like doom, with zombies. Which would have been great like 10 years ago, but these days it felt generic.
Which is why I need to give it another chance because apparently the game I think I played is much, much different than the game people are describing.

- radiofrequency, on 11/19/2008, -22/+1When I tried the demo this weekend, there were no coop servers for me to play on. $50 for this game is a ripoff. It's TF2 with new maps and textures. Make it $20 and I'm a buyer.
- Stupidumb, on 11/19/2008, -1/+11YOU'RE RETARDED
- c1rcasurv1ve, on 11/19/2008, -0/+6How is a 4 person Co-Op set in a zombie apocalypse, in any way, shape, or form, similar to a "The Incredibles" styled team based multiplayer shooter?
- bossm4n, on 11/19/2008, -1/+6With a comment like that, the rest of us are better off not seeing on line anyway.
- Wartz, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3ive been playing for hours and I havent had to create a LAN server yet.
- reticulate, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Better yet, get some friends and host a game?
- petebot, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2Does anyone know if it's possible to do a two player offline co-op on the same machine with the CPU filling in the other two slots?
- Otnip, on 11/19/2008, -5/+2On the Xbox 360, yup.
- Stupidumb, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4I think you can if you have a 360 controller.
- Foenetik, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4yes, you need a 360 controller though. instructions here - http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.p ...

- toastgodsupreme, on 11/19/2008, -0/+8I was confused at first when I saw the title of this. I thought somehow Ars Technica reviews had caused 4 people to die.

- marconius, on 11/19/2008, -0/+8I definitely concur with the Director being a dick. My friends and I beat the No Mercy campaign on Advanced last night, and the bastard threw two Tanks at us while we were waiting for the helicopter to rescue us. We killed the first one in the first wave of zombies, got harassed by countless Boomers, Smokers, and Hunters, then it got quiet. With the helicopter a few seconds away, a final Tank appeared just as we were running across the level to get to the HeliPad. We were all down to pistols by the time the chopper got there...goodness this game is amazing...
We'll be doing No Mercy all over again on Expert tonight and tomorrow.- Permagrin, on 11/19/2008, -0/+3Down to pistols? I guess you didn't realize that you can keep getting ammo in the radio room.
- deathguppie, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3also it's pretty much been my experience that you get at least two tanks at the end of every movie. Period.
- Johnnyjm, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4On our first run through No Mercy, also on Advanced, we blazed right through everything, that is, until we reached the finale. The first two tanks were spawned in a pattern, something like: "lots of zombies, then a tank, lots more zombies, then another tank". We killed these fairly easily, then the helicopter appeared and we were like, "WOOOOT!" We decided to just run for it. Big mistake. Here comes a THIRD tank and behind him another horde of hungry ass zombies sprinting right for us. One guy got snatched up by a smoker, another tackled by a hunter. I was speechless.
We did make it out but we were in pretty bad shape.
This game is serious business. - supaklaw, on 12/01/2008, -0/+2Yeah, note to self, don't self-heal when the choppah arrives... whole team ran off, and I got dry-humped by a Tank and a horde. My next game I did it before I heard the chopper arrive, and melee-ed the tank in the face, and he punched me off the roof... death from falling hehe.
- Permagrin, on 11/19/2008, -0/+3Down to pistols? I guess you didn't realize that you can keep getting ammo in the radio room.
- LVsFINEST, on 11/19/2008, -9/+2The best way to play this game depends on the person jackass.
A mouse may be superior for gaming, but a keyboard is not. I feel like I'm going to get carpal tunnel or something if I play PC for more than an hour. Consoles are much better for big hands. I'd rather play with less precision than in pain.- grahag, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4I disagree. My hands are huge and I prefer the keyboard and mouse to console controllers.
- ClevelandBrown, on 11/19/2008, -0/+3Ever thought of getting some wrist-rests? They're not expensive.
- holyskeleton, on 11/19/2008, -1/+15If there are 3 people considering buying the 4 pack I can take the 4th one and join you online.

- HypocriteDigg, on 11/19/2008, -8/+3***** that, this games ROCKS on the 360! It looks great, easy to control, and it feels so much better to shoot a gun using a rumbling controller and trigger button. Not to mention I can actually SELL IT later on which I can't do with my waste of money Orange Box I bought on Steam. I have a PC too so no need for the 'fanboy' *****.
- Spire3660, on 11/19/2008, -2/+3LOL I have NEVER wanted to give any game by Valve back....ever over the span of a decade. Plus the 360 will charge you for every little mod, on the PC the FREE mods are endless.
- slurba, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1I highly doubt the 360 is going to have mods. Updates by VALVe, yes (although charged), but no mods. The PC has a plethora of mods and some custom maps have already started to appear.
- djfreex, on 11/19/2008, -0/+26As a PC Gamer at heart, I feel privilleged to be able to play games of companies like Valve, Relic and Blizzard. Especially after seeing EA's latest travesty: Need for Speed-Undercover. When most of other developers focused on 360 as the primary development environment, canceled
(even worse ported and not optimized) PC versions, blamed every PC gamer for being a pirate and shamefully renounced PC gaming as dead; Valve went the other way: revolutionized digital distribution with Steam, published instant gaming classics that could be played for years (HL, TF2 etc), single single-handedly started episodic gaming, selling all back catalog of a game company (ID Pack, Valve Pack) at a great price. As a proud of owner of Valve Pack, I salute your accomplishments. PC will never die.... - Hero0fTime, on 11/19/2008, -1/+16This game has more story and character than anything Hollywood is churning out now.
Weird thing is... Value doesn't provide backstory. It's all implied, but so effective. I don't know how they do it. - darkism, on 11/19/2008, -1/+6A mouse and keyboard is the best way to play any game.
- surfacewound, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4Nonsense, the thought of playing a sports or racing game with a mouse and keyboard is a bit ridiculous, never mind claiming that it's better than a gamepad/steering wheel.
- noerrorsfound, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1Racing games alright if you steer with the mouse.
- slurba, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Flying games sometimes require a joystick if you want to be able to even compete.
- PhailQuail, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Depends on what type of flying game, Eternal Silence uses mouse+keyboard really well.
- surfacewound, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4Nonsense, the thought of playing a sports or racing game with a mouse and keyboard is a bit ridiculous, never mind claiming that it's better than a gamepad/steering wheel.
- azizrulez, on 11/19/2008, -0/+6Valve have done it again, but the sad thing is,its not going to do as well as games like Gears of War or Metal Gear Solid 4 or GTA 4,which is kinda sad considering that L4D is easily the most polished compared to the others and offers more bang for buck as well
- wolfing, on 11/19/2008, -8/+2not really interested here, guess I'm too old for yet another FPS (I was amazed by Wolfenstein in college, then Quake, Doom, Half Life... but little by little they all started to feel like the same thing to me). But hey, you youngsters will probably enjoy it
- grahag, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4I like all the little touches like the graffiti on the walls from other survivors to their loved ones and how all the environments look like they could exist anywhere... The open-endedness of the maps are nice that give you a point A and a point B and then you get to decide HOW you want to get there. It's nice not being shoehorned into one way to your objective.
- Chicken001, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1According to their commentary. They tried complete open world maps, like a whole city and you have to get to the other side.
They found that players became overwhelmed and stuck with one route repeatedly so they shrunk it down to be more fun.
