Spreading something by a scener in a taboo in most scenes, so I can only assume the Crackulous author was counting on the same kind of respect. And from what I've noticed, it appears that respect IS present in the iPhone cracking scene, at least on some level. All of ZodTTD's stuff gets removed from http://appulo.us for example.

lol "but not to sound elitist".
The "scene" is a bunch of losers with just enough knowledge to rip off the work of people who actually do know how to build products. Then you have pointless pissing contests over who can rip off someone else's work first. Its an ego driven self indulgent wankfest from a bunch of people who create NOTHING and are particularly precious about it. Its like a bunch of car thieves who, in their heads, think they are in "gone in 60 seconds" when in fact they are just dumb thieves.

- theonlywizdum, on 11/22/2008, -6/+11People buy $1000 computers and then pirate $500 - $2500 programs because you should not pay more for the software than the actual physical objects that they run on.
- TomFrost, on 11/22/2008, -4/+5Why do people pirate music that's only $0.99 per song? Because that cost adds up pretty damn fast when you're looking to buy a bunch. No, people aren't going to collect as many iPhone apps as they would MP3s, but when you have thousands of apps and most of them are only amusing for 2 minutes, you work through them quickly.
- noalarms, on 11/22/2008, -2/+6@TomFrost, lilmentor3
Yes, that may be true but piracy in any respect is wrong (in the terms this particular thread is about) and you should acknowledge that. I do. However, relatively speaking, a $1-5 app is not that much money to spend versus $500+ software. Most of us (who can afford iPhones at least) can drop a few bucks but $500+ is a real investment. That's the key difference.
And any comment on "Oh, but if you can afford an iPhone then you can spend $500+ on anything!" is ***** and you know it. - mudpuddle, on 11/23/2008, -4/+4Yeah, Safeway was selling mangoes the other day for $2 a piece. If they were 20 cents each, maybe I'd buy them. You see, I needed 20 mangoes for something I was making later in the week, and at that price, it would really add up. So I just took them instead, because that's how I roll with my selective relativist twisted ethics system.
Yes, mangoes are physical commodities and software is digital - does that help you rationalize it? - nan0bug00, on 11/25/2008, -1/+2The difference is that when you take a mango, or twenty, you are depriving whoever owned them previously of them. Any value that they had belongs to you alone after doing so. When software is copied, the developer is not deprived of an object. They still possess their software, they can still sell copies of it to upstanding citizens/suckers who are willing to pay for it.
That said, I believe developers should be reimbursed for their work. I have a list of software that I fully intend to pay for once I cease being a broke-ass college student, as well as a forgotten list of software that I pirated and will never pay for because after using it for any length of time I determined it to be a steaming pile of ***** and promptly deleted it. Yeah yeah, demos are around sometimes, but it's often faster for me to just leech the full version off the newsgroups or bittorrent instead of waiting in a fileplanet queue.

Where are the OPEN SOURCE applications for the iPhone?
I got a compiler, and the chipset is pretty well known, so what's the friggin' hold up? Why can't I compile my own copy of Firefox, and run that on an iPhone, for instance? Then I could take advantage of the vast library of superior Open Source applications for my needs?- jferrari, on 11/22/2008, -0/+4There are a few open source applications for the iPhone, there are also 100's of free ones.

- reformation, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1I would like to believe you but I don't. Because you pirate music and videos that you can buy for less than $20. Probably.
- nan0bug00, on 11/25/2008, -0/+1Photoshop is priced appropriately. The only reason you should need all the features of Photoshop is if you are using it commercially, and if you're using it to make money, you should pay for it. Adobe makes software with a more reasonable price and feature set for the home user.
That said, Adobe should probably give away or offer deep price cuts on Photoshop for students, much like Microsoft has with their Silverlight program and price cuts on Office.

- kreatre2007, on 11/22/2008, -12/+6It's the ***** hackers that made Apple and AT&T over react and take away the ease of activation that original iPhone buyers had. Before the iPhone 3G, we could take the iPhone home, plug it into our computers and perform the whole process in iTunes. Of course, it didn't always workout that way for some of the early buyers but, it was much easier than standing in line for hours like customers had to do when the 3G first released. Screw the hackers! They deserve the ***** that they get for screwing around with the iPhone and not using it as intended. Software developers deserve to get paid. I work very hard on developing graphics for iPhone apps and, I don't appreciate that someone might try to hack my apps and not pay for them. *****' assholes!
