- orangester, on 11/17/2008, -6/+80Please leave Cloverfield be. The fact that much remained a mystery was a big part of the movie. Say a monster attack happened in real life, you aren't going to know all the inner workings of the attack such as who, what, when, where, why, how? Don't let their be a sequel to spoil the good name of Cloverfield. For once I've found a monster movie that pulled me in at the theater, making me think as if I was the one running from the creatures.
- Syphon8, on 11/18/2008, -1/+23You wouldn't right away... But you would eventually.
People tend to study things like this. - Unknown038, on 11/18/2008, -0/+20i agree completely, however i'd love to see another movie in the same style as cloverfield, with a completely unrelated story and setting
- IRAcarbombs, on 11/18/2008, -1/+7i second that
- PrincessDejiko, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1Go watch Rec. It came out in Spain last year, very similar style (person with a camera manages to be in the wrong place at the wrong time) and it scared the everliving ***** out of me...more than any other horror movie.
- ChromaVita, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2I think it'd be sweet for them to make cloverfield style movies for lots of stories. Overthrowing a government, Zombie outbreak, different apocalyptic events.
- warplayer, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1George Romero's Diary of the Dead is a shaky cam zombie movie. It's pretty cool.
- RexxxMaster, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1Halo would be a sweet movie to see like that. i could just see the covenant yelling "the demon is here" they all get pick of one by one. the whole game is in first person why not do the movie in third person. it would total keep Master Chief anonymity.
thats just my 2 cents tho
- gavdana, on 11/18/2008, -8/+7I'm going to go ahead and disagree with
"Don't let their be a sequel to spoil the good name of Cloverfield."
The movie had two things going for it:
1 - JJ and 2 - Mystery
Once it was over, the mystery was gone, and even JJ's good name could not get the bad taste out of my mouth. The movie wanted to be low-budget cool with a brain. It turned out to be 90210 in New York with a monster and a camcorder. - unreg, on 11/18/2008, -0/+16Cloverfield 2 should be told from the monsters point of view. You know, he could be a road weary traveler and all those lices things were simply his kids looking for the bathroom.
- bluepass, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2The whole idea is that this is not you running away from the monster but rather videotapes found after the incident and collected by the government. Therefore they could have dozens of sequels and it'd still work out.
I would love to see a Cloverfield sequel.- unreg, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1But that wouldn't be a sequel, it would be the same thing. Of course this time Hud could nail Marla.
- garfunky, on 11/18/2008, -2/+1cloverfield sucked...
there i said it. - salomejones, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1I want to hear more about that weird japanese drink company that found that goop in some kraken anus under the sea. That'd make a good movie.
Kraken anus. Heh.
- Syphon8, on 11/18/2008, -1/+23You wouldn't right away... But you would eventually.
- AmyVernon, on 11/17/2008, -2/+66Not every hugely successful movie HAS to have a sequel.
- BeShirtHappy, on 11/18/2008, -1/+4I agree 100%. Of course because a movie is hugely successful they want to cash in on that and keep making sequels (that 90% of the time suck). I really liked Cloverfield and do hope they don't mess with it.
- betheturtle, on 11/18/2008, -1/+11Sadly, modern cinema has proven you wrong.
- thashiz, on 11/18/2008, -0/+32I remember skipping school for Blair Witch 2.
I should have stayed in class.- GreatSunJester, on 11/18/2008, -0/+7I'm sorry -- I felt that way for the first one.......and I was not even in school at the time!
- d3dm, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2The sequel would suck because we've seen the monster already. Now a prequel...
- ZigVicious, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4That wouldn't un-see the monster...
- Firespray1138, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4Bring on Titanic 2.
- 33PercentGod, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3If I could digg you up a billion times I would.
- m00n1, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2They will as long as people go to see them. It's that simple.
- funkymonkey01, on 11/17/2008, -6/+13Hopefully the monster will be a little scarier this time
- sgtbutterscotch, on 11/18/2008, -1/+10I thought Cloverfield was ok. I like ambiguity, but that was too much ambiguity for me. I don't see why the creators shouldn't try to milk this ok movie for all its got. It's not like we will look back one day and say it is a classic that got ruined by it's sequel, at least I hope not.
- scottsutherland, on 11/18/2008, -1/+50I'm so startled! Shelly, wave to the camera!
- harpoonhank420, on 11/18/2008, -0/+7STAN
- newman328, on 11/18/2008, -9/+2In the new one can we actually see what the damn monster looks like, and not everybody else's reaction to it?
- tattertech, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4Did you see the same movie as the rest of us? Did you see the thumbnail with the article? Did you forget the /s tag?
- Gemfinder, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1Awwww, getting a shot of the monster's tonsils wasn't good enough for ya?
- kimersiner, on 11/18/2008, -25/+2
- rainbowjinjo, on 11/18/2008, -0/+13I want to digg this up for being hilarious.
- ElatedPanda, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2i'm not even mad. that's hilarious.
- astrobela, on 11/18/2008, -1/+1canal sex.. oh wait it's casual sex, wtf, I need sleep
- Avaseal, on 11/18/2008, -0/+8Cool, maybe I'll go see it when it comes out, or I won't.
- alankem, on 11/18/2008, -1/+13Please don't.
- Dumbledorito, on 11/18/2008, -1/+15It had its moments, but the "dialogue" of the guy holding the camera makes it hard to sit through for repeat viewings.
- fokov, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1I thought the camera movements were just annoying and didn't really add anything. I know that was their 'artsy' point, but the movie still sucked.
- ChromaVita, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1I thought it made the film see more realistic. The thing about monster movies is that it's easy to feel detached. The characters you get attached to always have the military behind them or something. Cloverfield did a damn good job showing what a normal persons experience could be like. It showed the disparity of situation. It was the one monster movie where I really felt like I'd be ***** if i were in that position.
- fokov, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1I thought the camera movements were just annoying and didn't really add anything. I know that was their 'artsy' point, but the movie still sucked.
- EMFK, on 11/18/2008, -13/+17Wasn't the first one bad enough?
- karmaroks, on 11/18/2008, -2/+8I liked it and I promise I won't drag you to the theater. Problem solved?
- EMFK, on 11/18/2008, -2/+1Well, since you promised. :-)
- karmaroks, on 11/18/2008, -2/+8I liked it and I promise I won't drag you to the theater. Problem solved?
- brokencode, on 11/18/2008, -0/+21No more hipsters!
- faceless323, on 11/18/2008, -0/+6agreed. Give us scene girls...
- kinseyincanada, on 11/18/2008, -2/+16i actually really enjoyed Cloverfield, i would like a sequal but it will most likely suck.
- FizzanoMatrix, on 11/18/2008, -3/+6Hopefully it Isn't.
- Striff, on 11/18/2008, -8/+7It is still going to suck. Just like the first one.
- mwunsch, on 11/18/2008, -4/+21kabuto evolves into kabutops!
- danielrh9, on 11/18/2008, -1/+10I'll be happy to see another Cloverfield as long as it doesn't involve another monster attack.
I think it would be cool to see the same events from another perspective. I think JJ Abrams himself once mentioned that he saw a possible parallel film happening and that the two met when the guy holding the camera in the original Cloverfield bumped into someone else with a videocamera on the Brooklyn Bridge. Perhaps it could show a little more after the bombing that ended the first movie. - Rapter09, on 11/18/2008, -1/+34Who says Cloverfield 2 has to answer any questions?
A lot of you are getting your knickers in a knot for no reason, and none of you hate sequels, so quit saying "you'd rather not" see a Cloverfield 2. That's such *****. You know it, and I know it.
You hate terribly-made money-grubbing sequels. If its made well, I don't see a problem with more monster-destruction.
You rate the movie after it comes out, not before.- badenglishihave, on 11/18/2008, -1/+1Agreed... you know those people who always say "Oh man, such-and-such movie's gonna be SO good!"?
Guess what: you haven't seen it yet so stfu.
- badenglishihave, on 11/18/2008, -1/+1Agreed... you know those people who always say "Oh man, such-and-such movie's gonna be SO good!"?
- DaveXensen, on 11/18/2008, -3/+2I would love to see a sequel, but not continuing the story from the original plot with the same characters.
Let's see a different group of people trying to survive, filmed with another camera. Same time and place as the first movie, but a different plot line for the characters and thus revealing more bits and pieces about the monster.
This way the ambiguity and mystery of 'Cloverfield' is still intact, and more of the mystery is unraveled without having to completely ruin what could be a great series (ie Silent Hill).- analogkid01, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3***SPOILERS***
Given that everyone in the first film dies...that'd be kinda hard.- Gemfinder, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1Nope, Lily got away. She survived.
- analogkid01, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3***SPOILERS***
- SnuKs, on 11/18/2008, -3/+24So is this when Voltron comes in and kills the bastard?
- solsurvivor, on 11/18/2008, -1/+1DANCE-OFF!
- cJw314, on 11/18/2008, -1/+2Now THAT's some ***** I'd happily pay $10.50 to see.
- lougoose, on 11/18/2008, -2/+3The only way to make it 1/2 work is to do the same story from another point of view.
- getatmedigg, on 11/18/2008, -3/+5How about a Cloverfield/Lost tie-in? (Sidenote:Ever notice the monster in Cloverfield and the smog monster in LOST use the same sounds FX.) Maybe a crossover with LOST characters in a flash-forward.
- ak1200, on 11/18/2008, -1/+2I agree, I want Cloverfield 2 to show that everything in 1 is just a dream from two obscure Oceanic 815 survivors that we've yet to meet from the Island. Or better yet Walt imagined it and is the reason it all happened. Anything ridiculous like that as long as it would greatly piss off Cloverfield and Lost fanboys would be great [disclaimer: I myself am a huge Lost fanboy, I just would like to see JJ Abrams give a big middle finger to the possibility of anything rational happening in either mythology].
- golddeath, on 11/18/2008, -2/+3Top 3 movie of 2008 for me! Keep the shaky camera and go with the rumored story line of the same monster attack from different people. Actually do anything at all, have it out in theaters by 2011, name it Cloverfield 2 and you got me in the seats for the good or bad of it.
- nerowasmagnetic, on 11/18/2008, -5/+1Maybe if you're the kind of person who can't stand being jerked around by the highly intellectual medium of film then you shouldn't see the first, or want to see the second. If you're the kind of helpless sap who can't help but gobble every form of new media available you should definitely see this movie.
- garywoo, on 11/18/2008, -0/+8Anyone else notice how that pages seems to load 1/3rd of the way down?
Or do i need a girlfriend? - FriedTurkey, on 11/18/2008, -2/+2Godzilla DVD + an epileptic with a camcorder = Cloverfield 2
- teamgwho, on 11/18/2008, -3/+111) I liked the shaky cam. I am sick to death of people whining about it. I like the unedited unscripted feel of a shaky cam movie. Although honestly Diary of the Dead wasn't that great but quarrantine was awesome. Is it gimicky? Sure. and the gimick works for me.
2) Were the characters a tad douchey? sure. and I liked the movie because of it not despite it. Not every movie has to have likeable characters. Lord knows not everyone in real life is intelligent or good looking or good natured. There's lots of douchey people out there and their stories have just as much of a right to be told
3) We do NOT need a sequel. Blair Witch 2 sucked. Most sequels suck. A unique film like this doesn't need a sequel just cause it made money. - sauron256, on 11/18/2008, -2/+7"Set Cloverfield 2 after the monster has been killed, so we can see the parents of Rob and Hud agree that they’re pleased their sons died because they were both douchey hipster wankers."
Dugg for truth! - dupswapdrop, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5Hey if they need to they can shoot it in my grandma's basement just like last time.
- Disturbedsavio, on 11/18/2008, -1/+3Bring on the sequel.
I LOVE monster movie sequels! The Godzilla and Gamera series are perfect examples of great monster movie franchises! :D - deadbaby, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5People, it was a monster movie. Please don't get snobby about sequels. There will probably be a Cloverfield vs. King Kong made at some point in the next decade. It's how the movie industry works.
- Jareth86, on 11/18/2008, -5/+3***** THE RIAA!
- bobbknight, on 11/18/2008, -1/+2Ummmm yummy more ***** in cinema.
- Sisko41, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4The Blair WITH Project?
- charlesray, on 11/18/2008, -1/+3If they make the sequel about the same events from a different perspective, I will absolutely not see it. That's the worst idea in the history of the cinema. Who the hell wants to see the same plot twice?
And to everyone who says that leaving it a mystery is good, that's rubbish. Some people like explanations, and the ridiculous ***** you think up at 3am after you saw the movie doesn't count. - RealHyperX, on 11/18/2008, -5/+1Cloverfield 1 was GHEY! Serious.
- Omek, on 11/18/2008, -1/+1I am so startled.
- ChunkerMunker, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4This seems choreographed and part of the marketing campaign.
I can almost guarantee that they finished Cloverfield 2 before they even made Cloverfield 1.
I'm just waiting for a viral site to pop up. - NeoCortex, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2How about a Cloverfield-type movie, but with an alien invasion? Same style, but an unrelated story.
- ChromaVita, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1Or a zombie outbreak. I think that'd be a great movie.
- Gemfinder, on 11/18/2008, -1/+1I'm a serious Cloverfield fan — yeah, I ponied up the $100 for the Hasbro toy, and subsisted on chicken soup and oatmeal for a month afterward — but this article...
Let's just say I hit "Digg This" when I saw "Cloverfield" in the title, read the article, and went back to Undigg it. It sucked.
It's true, the characters got annoying after three minutes, but let's leave the snarkiness for Cracked. Hecklerspray = FAIL.
And for the record, I don't want to see Cloverfield II set in Japan. Clovie is America's monster and besides that, he's just a baby! The poor lil' guy's had plenty enough to deal with without sicking Gojira on him! Let's see Momma Clovie for the sequel.
Or better yet, if we're going to Japan and sicking Gojira on the poor kid, let's see Momma Clovie pop a cap in the big guy's cloaca when he tries to wax Clovie Jr. Defensive mother sea monsters FTW!! - jsffive, on 11/18/2008, -1/+2How much do you want to bet that they'll spend over a hundred million on the sequel... and they STILL won't figure out how to hold the goddamned camera still!
Do I really want to PAY for vertigo?
More importantly, will they hold it still for Star Trek? - Stryke, on 11/18/2008, -2/+2Wow, what a terrible article. Buried.
- sstouffer, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1Maybe this time they will use Image Stabilization!
- caponumen, on 11/18/2008, -2/+1The money would be better spent on a time machine to enable the unmaking of Cloverfield 1......
- jimbo92107, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2So few of these films capture the story from the giant, world-eating monster's perspective. I mean, the big galloot's got feelings, right? A lot of questions remained from the first film. What's the monster's motivation? Is he lonely, or just hungry? Does he prefer girls or boys, or kind of a mix of both? Do humans look like ants from way up there? Do missiles hurt when they hit him in the head?
Maybe if the monster was the narrator, like in Desperate Housewives. - spaceman84, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3For the sequel, maybe they could try not having an entire cast comprised of irritating douchebags.
Seriously, I couldn't wait for those preppy ***** retards to die.- Gemfinder, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3Except Marlena Diamond.
She was cool. More smarts in her eyelashes than the rest had between them.- spaceman84, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2And douchebag that JJ Abrams is, he exploded her and let the retards survive.
- Gemfinder, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3Except Marlena Diamond.
- idiotsavant, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1Buried, unless I didn't. Who knows.
