I honestly dont know if they will even get a bowl game...Personally I'm a Carolina fan and the Gamecocks in the Cotton Bowl with Texas would = a loss for them. Carolina's defense is very strong and their offense shows glimmers of dominance, but they aren't really any match for Texas.

      Tennessee is VERY high. Just to be bowl eligible they have to win out, which is looking less and less likely.

  • robbh66, on 11/03/2008, -3/+11Tech is getting what it deserves. Year in year out Tech wins a lot of games, but year in and year out they always lose to someone they shouldn't. Granted, if they lose at this point it will be to a top 10 or the north champion, but now that they're number 2, they'll be ranked higher. Sure, they'll probably beat OSU this weekend but after that it's OU...in Norman. Stoops is like 59-2 there and they're probably still pissed after getting knocked off in Jones last year and a win means OU goes to the Big 12 championship.

      • patriamus, on 11/03/2008, -3/+6i was at the cotton bowl a few years ago when Tech played Alabama. What a stunner... great game. Alabama won with a lopsided field goal that appeared to miss. All the tech fans started screaming, then we realized we lost.

        Anyway, that was 2 years ago. We just beat the #1 team. If we beat OSU, another top 10, we deserve respect. This was the first time Tech has had to prove itself this year. We have to give em another chance to do the same.
      • dafragsta, on 11/03/2008, -2/+4What this man says is correct, much as I wish it were not. The tie-breaker is the team that won when they played each other. This is why the Big 12 South is doomed to beat up on each other no matter how good all the teams are. They all play each other.

        Texas needs to lose ONE MORE dammit. I hate to be a bad sport and root against them outside of that one weekend in October because I live in Austin, but dammit that game was so close, so GO AGGIES! ;)

        In the Big 12, it's all in the family.
      • drstulsa, on 11/03/2008, -0/+5Actually, If OU and Texas win out, there is a possibility of OU going to the Big 12 championship. They would need Tech to only lose to OU and then be ahead of both Texas and Tech in the BCS. This is due to the three-way tie that would occur in this situation.

        Just to answer the invariables questions.
        Texas over OU
        Tech over Texas
        OU over Tech

        All must have one conf loss for this to work.

      Tiebreaks 1,2,3 would all be the same as would 4 if they each only have 1 loss (to each other)

      b. If three or more teams are tied, steps 1 through 7 will be followed until a determination is made. If only two teams remain tied after any step, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative.
      1. The records of the three teams will be compared against each other
      2. The records of the three teams will be compared within their division
      3. The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in their division in order of fi nish (4, 5 and 6)
      4. The records of the three teams will be compared against all common conference opponents;
      5. The highest ranked team in the first Bowl Championship Series Poll following the completion of Big 12 regular season conference play shall be the representative
      6. The team with the best overall winning percentage [excluding exempted games] shall be the representative
      7. The representative will be chosen by draw.

There will be no BCS bowl game if the can't handle Oklahoma State this weekend, who is very very good, or Oklahoma, who is just short of great. That's a big if for the Red Radiers. Great win against Texas, but it was in Lubock not like Texas' win over Oklahoma in a neutral field. But, if the Raiders can go undefeated, they'll be in the championship game with no doubts! I hope it happens!

      Nowhere. Why? Because they were overrated and therefore those wins mean nothing. Ohio State is still ranked and still tough.

      Bama beat Clemson (#9 at the time) at the beginning of the season too. Where are THEY now? NO WHERE.

      Lots of teams are overrated and get their asses handed to them when they play someone decent - that's when you know they hype was merely that.

      Penn State has gotten shafted many times in the past, not making the title game when they deserved it, so if they go this year maybe it'll be karma. It WON'T be talent.

      BAMA goes all the way.

        Are you grasping at the straw that Saban coached for Belichick with the Cleveland Browns in the early 90’s? And that this somehow makes Saban a cheater?

        What you do not remember is that when Belichick and Saban were coaching together, their teams were not very good.

        -In 1991, the Browns gave up the most points in the NFL.

        Prior to the Browns?

        -1988-1989- Secondary coach under Jerry Glanville with the Houston Oilers- consecutive records of 10-6 and 9-7 were not good enough for Glanville (nor Saban) to keep his job.
        -1983-1987- DC and secondary coach at Michigan State-
        -1987 led nation in rush defense and was 2nd in scoring defense. This shows me how good of a coach Saban was prior to coaching with Belichick.

        My suggestion is you concentrate on the real story - that the Gators face the biggest threat they'll see when they play BAMA - rather than trying to invent one.

      What about a desperation long pass that luckily paid off for a 91 yd TD?

      Texas' offense didn't score a single TD until the fourth quarter. And the last one was the only one that they actually showed any sign of a #1 ranked team to accomplish.

      Tech dominated Texas on both sides of the ball for the entire first half of the game. Leach made some bad play calling in the 3rd quarter trying to run out the clock, and Texas had a few breaks thrown their way and kept themselves but being blown out, but the better team obviously won.

      Numerous plays where the THREE man defensive line scored a QB sack sure do seem to indicate anything but luck.

    On the other hand, I don't see Florida putting up as much against us as they have against LSU and Georgia, because our key to victory this year has been our more than solid running game, eating time off the clock in huge chunks.

I feel that the SEC Champion will be one of the contenders to the BCS Championship. I also feel that the SEC Championship is going to be a more exciting game than the BCS Championship. The best 1 loss team in the country (disputable, it could be texas now) VS the best undefeated team in the country? Awesome. I'd love to see Alabama or Florida go to the BCS National Championship to represent the SEC for the 3rd year in a row.

        I thought the next highest bowl eligible team in the conference would replace the league champion. If anything I figured they would have to be ranked, but didnt' realize they had to be in the top 14.
      • ShoeSh1ne, on 11/04/2008, -0/+0The Rose Bowl is no longer just Pac10/Big10 game. The BCS changed that. I think after the National Champ game, the Rose bowl gets second pick of the teams it wants. I could be wrong but that's how it works.

        Texas has been in 2 Rose bowls recently, 2005 and 2006.

  • skipdog172, on 11/03/2008, -1/+3I think some people need to start accepting the fact that College Football nowadays isn't like the College Football from the old days. The championship games aren't undefeated team vs. undefeated team. Teams are much more evenly matched now, like the NFL. It is going to be very difficult for any team to go undefeated. As close as teams are to each other in terms of talent, some games will be won and lost by such small factors that you simply can't look and see "team x beat team y, thus team x is the better team" anymore. I think more folks need to get that KEY POINT into their head. It is all about a team's total performance for the year and we should stop paying so much attention to the weekly polls because we know that they won't mean much next week. This has proven itself to be correct just about every single week so far.

  • Ryanw430, on 11/03/2008, -2/+3If Texas Tech and Alabama both win the rest of their games I see them (rightfully) playing for a national championship. One of them will probably lose though given their tough conferences, which means the Big Ten will more than likely send another team to get blown out. At the lower end of the BCS we'll probably see another WAC team get in simply because they have an extremely weak conference and the MWC will screw itself over once TCU, Utah and BYU all play each other. It goes without saying that we need a playoff system in college football.

Alabama beat Clemson and Georgia. Clemson's now 4-4 and Georgia got their asses handed to them in both of their big match-ups.

Alabama would also potentially have to beat a top 5 ranked Florida team. In my opinion, that is a lot more impressive than Penn State's wins. I am not a Bama fan one bit, but at this moment Bama deserves to be ranked ahead of Penn State.
