- thegamingguy, on 11/19/2008, -0/+15Most of those are awesome, and true to most movie poster "templates" the "independent" look is becoming stock too.
- hfactor, on 11/20/2008, -3/+1I don't understand what's "indie" about most of these movies. A lot of them were hugely successful, translated into many languages etc... Is everything considered "indie" that is not coming from the "Big Six"?
- drewbeta, on 11/20/2008, -1/+4"Indie" basically means not made by a Hollywood studio. That doesn't mean that they are low-budget, the would be a "B Movie"

- disraeligears54, on 11/19/2008, -2/+10dugg for some exquisite films
- Supernova36, on 11/20/2008, -3/+2I guess you aren't referring to The Descent, which was laughably bad.
- disraeligears54, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3What you didn't consider that a classic??

- occasus, on 11/20/2008, -12/+4I've seen 22 of them, and The Machinist is the only one I really wouldn't recommend wasting your time on.
- TheSum, on 11/20/2008, -0/+10Actually The Machinist is one of the best of the lot.
- nutsackorama, on 11/20/2008, -0/+0You're a dummy.
- 8bitflu, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2You're a learning computer. Don't hurt wolfy.
- 8bitflu, on 11/20/2008, -2/+20I like the creative one. It's AWESOME!
- jonshipman, on 11/20/2008, -0/+7I like the one about the independent film. It's AWESOME!
- reuscel, on 11/20/2008, -1/+14Dugg for including "Brick." A great and surprising film.
- occasus, on 11/20/2008, -2/+2You dugg an article about 40 movie posters because you enjoyed one of the movies? Sigh.
Yes, Brick is a great movie.

- techguru2006, on 11/20/2008, -2/+2Dugg for becoming popular with 100 diggs and 5 comments.
- ABJ974, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Great set of posters. Never seen many of these movies but the posters look awesome.
- stonebone4, on 11/20/2008, -4/+2Funny Games is terrible.
- timothycrash01, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Watch the original directed by Michael Haneke. You might like it more.

Awesome filmmaker.- stonebone4, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808279/
He directed the shot-for-shot remake too.
I got what he was going for, and it was an interesting premise; I just didn't like the way it was carried out. I've been convinced for years that the only people ever allowed to break the fourth wall are Zack Morris, Wayne Campbell, and Ferris Beuller. - timothycrash01, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Ha - thanks stonebone4. I hadn't watched the new one! Didn't realize he did it too 'cause I avoided all info on it. ;-) Too bad if the remake is poorly done.
Re: fourth wall: Woody Allen did it a lot in the 70's and 80's and I thought he was successful. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is recent film that tried (mainly in narration though) and I loved that film.

- HyphySoul, on 11/20/2008, -2/+7These posters make me want to watch some of these movies, most of them I haven't heard of but they have a great cast
- cadmiumpaint, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2i'm really over smashing magazine over-using words like "beautiful", "exquisite", "extraordinary" etc etc to describe every list they make.
- 8bitflu, on 11/20/2008, -2/+1What a Tremendous waste of skin you are.
- latinjones, on 11/20/2008, -2/+1Maybe, but I hate really hate that word so I'm going to digg him up and you down.
- oep4, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2yeah...they try too hard
- 8bitflu, on 11/20/2008, -2/+1What a Tremendous waste of skin you are.
- lunachique, on 11/20/2008, -3/+6The Descent poster is amazing. That movie scared the living crap out of me.
- oep4, on 11/20/2008, -2/+1the descent poster sucked
- dse78759, on 11/20/2008, -10/+5Life Aquatic was greatly overrated.
- noots, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1negative.
it's a superb film. Owen Wilson's acting is probably the only downside to the entire film, but i think that's because he'd played so many roles as "owen wilson" it looked forced when he wasn't.
seu jorge ruled. - RobotKeaton, on 11/20/2008, -2/+1I would never consider a movie that 90% of the population has never heard of as 'overrated.'
- noots, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1negative.
- latexsolarbeef, on 11/20/2008, -5/+2A while back there was an article on here about Polish interpretations of American movie posters. Those were 1,000 times cooler than this crap.
I'd say exquisite...only if you've eaten a couple tabs...- geniusNOTatWORK, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Never read the article but was it this one?
http://wellmedicated.com/inspiration/50-incredible ...- latexsolarbeef, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1YES! Those are the ones. Now honestly, can these independent posters hold a candle???
- geniusNOTatWORK, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Never read the article but was it this one?
- sephiroth965, on 11/20/2008, -0/+17Primer and Brick were both incredible films.
- mkameli, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Amen. "Primer" is the kind of movie that every digger needs to see. So friggin great. "You want to get some food? I haven't eaten since later this afternoon."
- BoneheadFarker, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5The only thing I learned from all that was that Bill Murray really likes to do independant films...
- Twag86, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Dugg for the Proposition. Amazing movie.
- Carramrod72, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Agreed. Underrated....
- Luciapalooza, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Tideland was a totally ***** up, well made movie
- acroyear2, on 11/20/2008, -1/+4I highly recommend "Hard Candy"
- principlePwr, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4Seriously? That movie was way too extreme to be realistically applicable. It didn't leave me thinking of anything but 'what the *****.' Actually now that I've said these things, it's starting to convince me that it actually was a good movie...
- acash0902, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Brutal movie
- CavalierEternal, on 11/20/2008, -4/+1Dude gets his ball cut off by an androgynous 14 year old.
Movie made me hate Ellen Paige, so much so that I would definitely stomp her 4 ft ass into the ground if I ever met her.- acroyear2, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2^ spoiler alert
androgynous 14 year old-looking (she wasn't really 14), Ellen Paige ftw - tattoojoo, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4actually, she didn't really cut off his beanbag.
- eleven, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Someone's a little touchy about androgynous 14 year old girls.
- acroyear2, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2^ spoiler alert
- HarryLeeSmith, on 11/20/2008, -7/+2Buried for more lame MrBabySpam....
- HeatVision, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Interesting how the article starts off redefining what an "independent film" is, since most of these are not what would pass for truly independent films (biggest exception being Primer). These are just smaller budget films, the majority being produced within the studio system that gives us the big budget films. However, there are some cool posters there.
- chuuch, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4Did Independent movie studios only start creating movie posters in 1999 or do the writers at Smash Magazine only remember the last 10 years?
- captainbethany, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5I loved Eagle vs. Shark. So strange, but so good.
- 2Pharcyded, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1why is paranoid park on there? how is that poster exquisite?
that said...great collection - vidiot2332, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4so cool posters, but Independent? only like half...
- Spartandog, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1A refreshing break from the cheap-looking movie-star-face-collages we keep seeing.
- tattoojoo, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Dugg for 'Before the Devil Knows You're Dead'
I have two words: Marisa Tomei- timothycrash01, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Ya - not only does she get ***** for like 30 minutes of that movie but it is also directed by one of the greatest directors in history: Sidney Lumet. (Network, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, 12 Angry Men, Failsafe, etc.)
- Iknowyourtricks, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1If you want to watch a good movie, check out "The Squid and the Whale."
- mongrel, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5WTF is "Zoo?" Is that man about to face-rape that horse?
- polkadotdotdot, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3you're close-
according to IMDB "A look at the life of a Seattle man who died as a result of an unusual encounter with a horse." - stonebone4, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1It's about Mr. Hands.
Seriously.
- polkadotdotdot, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3you're close-
- davidsakh, on 11/20/2008, -0/+0coolah! Von Hour!
- drewbeta, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1I couldn't imagine designing a movie poster. Often-times the posters are done before the movie is, and the poster designer has not actually seen the movie. I could imagine that it would be pretty tricky.
- gregatron, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3dugg for Primer. Absolutely Incredible film
- oep4, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3paranoid park's poster sucked.
- TheBlindGuy, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2But it was Gus van sant so it must be good.
- Slacker1031, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1these really blew me away, a lot of them really capture the passion and motivation that is so alive in the Independent Film Industry.
- cr8nkenstein, on 11/20/2008, -4/+1Buried for being a lame ass BabySpam submission...
- sarajsn, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Lost in translation! one of my favorites!
- aristideau, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1Same, I remember I first heard on a My Bloody Valentine forum that Coppola was going to have music from Death in Vegas, My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and Mary Chain (my top three fave bands) in her new Romantic Comedy. I thougth WTF, those bands in a romantic comedy??, it will never work.
Then I saw the film and the soundtrack is perfect.
(Those bands play in most scenes where Bill Murray is in a taxi).

Man Bites Dog - http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3340278016/tt0103905 (Went to the premiere of this and I had never seen a mocumentary so for part f the movie I thought it was real)
